The magic of the view is that the keyhole perfectly frames a straight line of sight, through a meticulously maintained garden avenue, leading directly to the magnificent dome of St. Peter's Basilica. Therefore, when you peer through the Aventine Keyhole, you are effectively seeing:

The Sovereign Military Order of Malta (the "country" you are standing in, through the keyhole).

Italy (the gardens and the city of Rome, which are Italian territory).

Vatican City (the dome of St. Peter's Basilica, which is the heart of Vatican City State).

Here is a personal interpretation of Agnes Obel's 'Aventine'. To me this song is about following one's inspiration, embracing a flow state of being and doing, being brave enough to dismantle foundations to bring about real change. Enjoy.
