Avery Raquel presents: Shoes
Recently back from Europe, Canadian Billboard-charting recording artist, Alternative Soul singer, Avery Raquel, has entertained audiences professionally for over a decade. Having released 4 solo albums now to critical acclaim and airplay across North America and the world, her last self-titled release debuted on the Canadian iTunes Top 200 R&B/Soul album chart at #5. Five tracks from that album were finalists in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition in 2022, in 4 different categories, with one winning the Grand Prize in the Pop category. That latest project of all original Alternative Soul is reminiscent of her love for R&B/Soul music of the past, but with a more current, contemporary style. Influenced by artists and songwriters such as Carole King, Amy Winehouse, Etta James, Lauryn Hill, Bruno Major, Allen Stone, and so many others, Avery’s created a collection of personal, yet relatable songs, a soulful fun mix of RnB/Soul and Pop, with a flavour of her Jazz, and Blues experiences. That same sound can be found on her new single from her upcoming EP. Performing nationwide, including main-stage performing arts centers, renowned music festivals, club-style venues, and corporate events, Avery continues to wow ever-growing audiences with her fresh style and powerful vocal performances.
SHOES
Written by Avery Raquel and Ali Levy, “Shoes” features instrumentation including acoustic guitar, trombone, synths, drums, and piano, as well as slide and electric guitar recorded by well-known Canadian Roots guitarist Ariel Posen. Avery’s and Ali’s emotive vocals take centre stage, supported by strong vocal unison and harmonies, while producer Matt McCormack’s production weaves an atmospheric soundscape that is both edgy and contemporary.
“Shoes” explores the emotions of early relationship insecurities, with the knowledge that your new partner has previously loved another and wondering how the differences may have an effect. “Do you think about her still? Do I have her shoes to fill?”
The song captures the delicate balance between vulnerability and angst, offering listeners a reflective moment on personal growth and human connection. Its storytelling and musicianship demonstrate Avery’s continued evolution as a songwriter and performer.
"This duet with fellow songwriter Ali Levy is the 4th track in my upcoming 2026 EP release", Avery Raquel.
