Dawn of the Seeker: Concept Art
In Dawn of the Seeker there is a 10/12 year old kid called Avexis. She has the power to control small creatures, and some blood mages do a ritual with her so she can control dragons. The bad guy controls her to control a dragon to attack the Divine and a ton of people in a gathering, and when Cassandra frees Avexis, she uses her power to make the dragon attack the bad guy. She has a cameo in inquisition as a tranquil mage.
How long did the chantry took to turn her tranquil after this
Basically inmediatly.
Less than 2 years
They waited until she was 16/18
They waited until she was an adult
They waited until she gave them A Different Excuse to turn her tranquil
Also is know they turn 11 year olds into tranquil no problem

“Avexis appears in the movie Dawn of the Seeker as a 10 year old who can talk and control animals, and gets kidnapped by blood mages to use her to control dragons too. Cassandra saves her and they hold hands and she smiles and has a super cute flower crown :) then in da:i she is a tranquil, and let's be reals a kid controlling dragon? she got the brand probably not very long after the movie, again as a 10 year old. Cassandra finds Minaeve with her, invites them both at the inquisition, and she stays as a creature researched. She says that she doesn't want the cure for tranquility because she couldn't survive how awful she was treated as a tranquil if she had her feelings back. She doesn't appear in skyhold after the haven attack. The more you think about her the most fucked up everything is and the sadder you will get. She was just a smiling 10 year old kid with a flower crown.”

“surana is my favourite warden pick when i want the “thrown into the world” angle to really land. the circle is the only life you’ve known, and then in one day you go from tower drama to “you’re joining an ancient order” to “welcome to a battlefield.” it also makes all the elf stuff later feel extra interesting, because you’re not dalish and you’re not a city elf who stayed in the alienage either — you’re this third thing, someone who got separated from elf life so early that you’re kind of rebuilding your identity in real time while the blight is happening.”

conclusion: it was hot garbage and made no sense but I sort of loved it
Honestly thinking about Avexis in Inquisition makes me
So, not only does she become Tranquil at some point between Dawn of the Seeker and Inquisition, which is heartbreaking, but there’s also no indication that she has any kind of relationship to Cassandra at all.
In Dawn of the Seeker it seems like Cassandra would be like a protector for her, that Avexis is an especially vulnerable mage due to her abilities. But then there’s no interaction between them in Inquisition, even though it’s likely Avexis was recruited to join by Cassandra…
Then I compare this to the relationship between Maddox and Samson, where Samson was also unable to protect Maddox from being made tranquil & then brought him into the middle of the war… but we’re given clear evidence of the loyalty & friendship between them… Samson writes: “Treat Maddox like you'd treat me.”
Cassandra has no lines about Avexis & doesn’t even imply she’s thinking of her when she talks about the cure for Tranquility.

can’t stop thinkin bout Grey Warden!Avexis so here have some headcanons <3
- magic manifested at age 3, the white spire is all she knows
- post DotS, she’s interrogated & ‘studied’ invasively (tortured)
- templars were gonna make her tranquil immediately but the enchanters (mostly galyan) convinced them to let her continue her training under the condition that she join the grey wardens if she survives her harrowing, arguing that her abilities could be invaluable to their order
- trains under galyan, is heavily monitored & under constant threat of tranquility
- harrows on her 16th bday, joins the wardens
- meets an old blood mage warden, eventually asks them to teach it to her so she can conquer her fear of it. (it also intrigues her & she’s curious & allured & wants to rebel against da system)
- can converse w/ an archdemon better & faster than anyone in the wardens’ history. it fucks her up severely but she doesn’t stop bc she’s got that ‘i was raised to be a Tool for The State™’ mentality :/
- hardened/traumatized from growing up in prison the spire. also from almost getting lobotomized becoming tranquil. and from her time as a child soldier grey warden.
- spends 2 yrs as a warden in orlais, transfers to ferelden a few weeks before the battle at ostagar. becomes hero of ferelden yayyy<3
