I was wondering why Tulip hadn’t spoken until much later in the story? Does she have selective mutism?

Yes, Tulip has been dealing with selective mutism for years – and since she lived alone for quite some time, with hardly anyone to speak to anyway, her voice got rusty.

She wants to get it back, even though it's not easy. Nobody knows yet – except Zoyander, who's been encouraging her to speak more often in his presence. She's very grateful for that.
