@avianawareness The ask box was too small, here goes: I just wanted you to know that you've changed things for me. I recently "got into" bird parenthood with my first budgie (pretty sure I just bought a sticker from you for Itachi!). Anyway, I'm the READ ALL THE THINGS, GO TO THE SEMINARS, DO THIS RIGHT" type, and have been researching care of parrot species intensively. I had a list of breeds I planned to "own", even shopping for houses arranged to allow for better bird keeping. I feel I'm the kind of person with the enormous patience and empathy to keep parrots, and to not anthropomorphise them, and most birds seem to take to me quickly, even the crotchety old rescue Amazon at my local shop that hates everyone. Now, to the point: I kept coming across your pages (etsy, storenvy, redbubble, Facebook) and Birds of Paradise Rescue, and every time I felt guiltier and guiltier because I KNEW you were right. That for-profit bird breeding is irresponsible at the least and abusive/slaughter at its worst. I gotta say, I changed my mind about my "birds to buy". I should put this time, energy, money, and devotion into fostering! As luck would have it, I'm moving to Clearwater in less than three years time, and I'm from the Bradenton area (currently in South Carolina). I feel there's some kind of fate happening here. If you have any specific suggestions for works to read, functions to attend, or places/people to go to to prepare myself fully for such a responsibility, I would appreciate it enormously. Anyway, thank you for your dedication, it DOES work!

If the birb is rough looking, talk to a manager and question about the status of the bird. “Is he ok? What’s his story?” be nice about it. Does he have toys?

I've mentioned it to employees before, but I was brushed off. Perhaps a manager would do better. We'll see next time I'm in there.

He does have toys, but only a couple and the whole little Plexiglas box he's in is rather unfit. 

I would bring him home but, I'm pretty maxed on birds, and they'd replace him with another. So it kinda exacerbates a problem.
