SEMI PRECIOUS WEAPONS - AVIATION EP REVIEW

After a lengthy absence and a gear change in musical style, the band that brought you You Love You, Semi Precious Weapons make a triumphant return with brand new material ahead of their new album with the EP "Aviation". Having achieved recognition through appearing on tour with  global superstar Lady Gaga and even more recently on Ke$ha's Warrior tour, the up all night glam rockers are back and ready to take on the airwaves once again with futuristic new levels of ear candy.

If you're aware of their previous work you'll know that these new offerings are totally different spins, let's just say there aint no "Magnetic Baby's" in here! Since switching to a new label the band have transitioned into an interesting electronic, tech, underground pop, synth sound. The lead single "Aviation High" shows this off a lot through a heavy bass drum undertone, synthesizer keyboards and Justin Tranter's obvious and soaring chorus vocals which arguably transcend the music by itself. 

The second track "Look To The Stars" has a head banging groove to it; it's kinda reminiscent of their rock and roll days with guitar breaks and attitude rammed into it, something both fans of rock and pop could easily jam to . The same can be said of the following track "Drink." This image, of alcohol and late night drinking in bars has been a lasting theme throughout the bands back-catalog which really does suit their bleached, bohemian LA lifestyle. The catchy hook of "wish I had a drink so I don't have to think" will stick in your head for hours, if not make you wanna head down to a bar to party till you're lucid. 

"Never Going Home" is a definite party closer...if you really don't wanna go home. This still retains some of their classic rock influences but includes a lot of synth and Justin's vocals yet again inject a chill out, euphoric atmosphere throughout the entire song. 

A sneaky teaser for what's soon to come in their new album, this EP is powerful, energetic and emotionally releasing. If anything it really exemplifies what the band are capable of musically, being able to turn their hand to new heights and experimental jams.  It is like air being blown into a mint set of lungs.
