question! (which i can send to askanordic instead if it would be more fitting) do you think norway's curl represents anything specific? i know there were some old theories but i'm curious about your thoughts on it :3c
The only theory I've heard is that the curl itself represents Svalbard and the dot represents Jan Mayen! And anyone who's been following me for a little bit know that I'm a slut for Svalbard and Jan Mayen.
I like it as a theory! It fits the canon of Hetalia, what with other characters' ahoges representing specific places in their own countries (Austria, America, etc.). It might also explain why the haircurl is floating near his head instead of being attached to it; Svalbard and Jan Mayen are not part of mainland Norway, and are instead located in the Arctic ocean.
I did consider implementing it into my own canon (for lack of better words), and I did pause when I did the comic about Den and Nor going to Ire's place. This incident would have taken place around the year 800, at which point Svalbard had not yet been discovered, and Jan Mayen (arguably) had been discovered only three hundred years ago and laid claim by none. So I did consider leaving out Nor's haircurl in this comic!
In the end I decided to leave it in, simply leaving the haircurl as part of his appearance. However, I can't begin to ponder what else it might represent!
