Being born without powers is a nightmare Ellie frequently has. There’s no alternate universe where Ellie could imagine herself human, no crack in reality where that could come true. Ellie couldn’t survive with her power, even though she uses it to be a little shit most of the time. The truth is that she’s attached to it because it helped save her. She doesn’t want to think of a world where she was still under the care of her adoptive parents.
Task 02 - Mutation
Luke fully and firmly believes that he would not have survived this long, nor would he continue to survive for very long, if he didn’t have his powers. He may not have any idea how to use them, but they are what kept him alive when he ran from home, what guided him to Ashworth and into a place to stay with his childhood friends. Every day, his inexplicable luck helps him get by. He knows that he’s not very smart, or talented, or skilled, and truly has no idea how to live in the real world. It’s just like his parents always said - without his powers, he would be nothing.
Task - Mutation
Mimi relies heavily on her powers. They were invaluable while she and Olivie were on the run throughout their teenage years, and they’re the basis of how she makes her living as a mercenary now in Ashworth. If she were to suddenly lose her powers for whatever reason, she would likely have to change her lifestyle drastically. She wouldn’t be able to get into nearly as many fights, and would probably have to spend a good amount of time hiding from enemies she’s made over the years. On the other hand, had she not been born with powers at all, she probably would have been just fine, since it was their being mutants that led to the attack on the Levesque family, forcing Mimi and Olivie to run all those years ago.
Without his ability, Sebastian believes his life would simultaneously improve and implode. Alone, he feels as though no one will ever return and thus he keeps the nearly abusive ghosts with him whether they wish to be or not. If he were to lose his control of them, he knows they would leave or possibly destroy everything he owns. To keep at least some company, to stave off loneliness for as long as possible, he needs them there.
Nerle really isn’t sure what his power is. While deep down he understand that he is a human who can turn into a doll (and assorted other inanimate objects), emotionally, he feels the connection to his doll form much more. If his power were to disappear, the irrational portion of himself believes that he would be stuck as a doll forever. Survival would continue, but it would be a diminished life. He couldn’t help anyone, couldn’t take care of his creator, couldn’t do anything.
Zeven had once used his power much more. Now, he sometimes forgets he even has one. While in a fight his power would be helpful, melee fighting with his little knife has become much more of the norm for him. His job doesn’t require his power and he sees very little reason for it. If one day he woke up and it was gone, he might not notice until days or weeks later.
Survival and life mean two very different things to Robius. While he could survive without his power, life for him would be unlivable without them. He cannot abide the idea of being once again reduced to a slave for others. His power grants him authority, not just of the people living under the same roof, but, to a certain extent, of an otherwise uncontrollable world. To him, his power is more than an extension of himself, more than life. It is a reason to continue breathing.
Bunny could survive well without his ability. To him, the power is something like a game. He can take it or leave it, but it’s more fun to have. That way, he can get into grown up places and find out what happens behind those big, scary closed doors. However, if he were to suddenly lose it, he knows people would still love him and play with him. Some games would be lost until he truly grew up, but he is okay with waiting.
