Lovely People

You are such wonderful people.  It's been three weeks since I posted my first fanfic.  It was a bit nerve-wracking, because the last thing I wanted was for everyone to shit all over it; you're kinda putting yourself up in front of strangers for scrutiny.  But the encouragement has been amazing, and the kind words.  It's amazing how a simple "hey I liked that bit" or "I like that storyline" or such just really lifts up your day. 

One reason I decided to start finishing and posting stories was because I wanted more fics.  And it didn't seem fair to start demanding them without offering them up myself. :)  It's a good fandom on AO3, and I reckon one of the best things we can do is encourage the new (and old!) writers.  Not everyone is in top form when they start (but everyone starts somewhere), so it's good to see people trying and adding to the pile of things we like to read, and everyone will just get better and better.  Some are extraordinarily awesome already, and it blows me away.

Today I worked on my story 'Barbarian' a bit at work.  I didn't have any work to do, and I threatened my boss for some, and until he found me some I did a bit of work on it.  It's up to 15k words but there's still quite a bit of story to go, and I already see storyline things I need to sort out.  But I'm having second thoughts about finishing and then posting it.  I think I might actually thrive and find more encouragement to take it slower if I try writing while I'm posting.  So I'm considering nailing down the storyline fully, until I'm absolutely happy with the progression of events (I've been swapping a few things), and maybe see about starting to post while I'm writing the middle and end.  I'm still a bit up in the air on it though...what do others find helps them?

On the plus side, while I was writing I tried to work on improving the quality of writing, namely through emotions ...it's a bit hard for me to find the right words, but I can certainly see how it feels better where I did make it work.  So there's plenty of revision to do.

And in the shower my smut idea came back (boy did it) so I'm having a quick go at rewriting that again.  It's a little better thus far...one thing I saw the other day about writing said to just write and create a first draft, then go back.  So I'm trying to get the idea on paper fully, then I'll go back and hopefully it'll come out right in the end.  I'm honest enough with myself sometimes - right now an unlicked envelope is probably more sexual and enticing than my story.  Must beat envelope!
