he's very attached to his long hair. it wasn't very common or acceptable where he grew up for boys to have long hair, and someone would always cut it when it reached past his shoulders. when he gets away he refuses to cut it and spends hours every week washing and combing it; it's a sign of freedom and agency and control over himself he values above all else.

he relies on Fyodor for a sense of purpose and direction—without Fyodor he'd be unmoored, violent, and callous. but he resents Fyodor even as he loves him, and eventually that conflict—y’know.

he's more submissive with Fyodor than he is with anyone else, but that just means most of the time he bullies Fyodor into taking care of himself (or simply does it himself) and bothers Fyodor for attention. in the moments where it matters though, he follows Fyodor's directions without question.

Dazai rushes to Fukuzawa's office the second he arrives at work, startling no one more than Kunikida, who notes Dazai's enthusiasm with no small amount of trepidation.

“I have a job for me,” Dazai announces to Fukuzawa, who is eating breakfast. Fukuzawa blinks.

“And why should you get this job?” Fukuzawa asks reasonably.

Dazai sits down, nearly vibrating with excitement. His coat is too large for him, awkward on his starved frame. And still he projects an air of confidence and authority that belies his puppy-dog demeanour. “Because I can solve it in a day.” He doesn't elaborate.

Fukuzawa sighs. “Explain.”

“There was a robbery in a port warehouse,” Dazai says, too fast. “Two nights ago. I know who did it. The cops don't—I can find whoever it is, in a day. Just let me go.”

“Fine,” Fukuzawa starts. Dazai is out of his seat and out the door before he can add, be safe.
