I will say one series I read to completion thanks to my friend that has become a new favorite is the manga Are You Alice? by Ikumi Katagiri with Ai Ninomiya, the English print edition by YenPress.
I'll be honest, I've never been the biggest fan of AiW retellings and inspired media, and I'm not the biggest AiW fan in general. So when my friend Seris recommended this to me, I had some trepidation, but I was willing to give it a shot.
I'm really glad I did, because this is one hell of an intense and intriguing mystery series, it utilizes the elements of AiW and historical facts excellently, and it has some powerful and (dare I say it) beautiful discussions about identity, choice, and life and death and love. I went on a ramble last year after I finished reading all 12 volumes, because this was thought-provoking in a great way, and it has officially become a new favorite for me.
If you or anyone else is interested in checking it out, I highly recommend reading it here! (Trying to hunt down the physical copies to own, like I did, can get expensive FAST.)
