Claudia and Aysu's kitchen is fittingly small for a one-bedroom apartment. It has all the essentials: a stove that is used maybe once or twice a week, a mostly-empty, mostly-undecorated fridge that is mainly there for its freezer compartment, and cabinets that have 5 or 6 of the same set of bowls and plates. The rest of the cabinet space stores snacks (most of which have gone stale, or expired), cans of ready-made soup, and copious amounts dried noodles. The sink is almost never filled with anything besides bits of Claudia's paint that they washed out from their palette. The dishwasher is mainly filled with cups and tupperware from the past week, filled by only one person. When you turned around there was a counter that was never clean- not because there was any cooking done, but because they would both throw their papers, keys -- really, anything they didn't care for the other finding-- onto the counter. The only things that really belonged to kitchen was the small rice cooker, a 15 year old toaster, and a bowl of fruit.
A silent agreement they made was that the kitchen was Claudia's domain, mainly because they used it the most; or, more precisely, they were the only one to use it. When they were at the apartment, they were snacking on things more than they were sleeping. It was a wonder that they hadn't accidentally eaten some of their paints. When they left, they'd grab a snack from the cabinets or from the fruit bowl. On better days, they'd cook a great big meal, that would be eaten over the course of the next few days. An easy lunch and dinner. They had offered some to Aysu, which they originally refused; but once Claudia realized Aysu would go days without eating, Claudia started packing their lunches too.
It wasn't that Claudia was a particularly bad cook; Aysu was sure that their cooking must have been quite good, as the artist had impossible to meet standards, and they would go days eating the same meal over and over again. Aysu just never had an appetite for anything- everything tasted bland. So nothing in the kitchen was Aysu's, besides the marks on the fridge's whiteboard calendar saying they'd be out for the next month.
