My new favorite obscure official artwork.
It was used as the cover art for 'Mirai Nikki: 13-nin-me no Nikki Shoyūsha -Re:Write-.'
hewwo! :3 just poppin by to say somethin i noticed about mirai nikki. in da mosaic manga minene fell from the top floors of the empire hotel, into a water fountain, and survived as if the entire mirai nikki universe is goin by minecraft physics :P anyway i was thinkin that if minene didnt survive the fall (which she shouldnt, it was too high and falling flat into water that high would actually kill you :/ ) azami kirisaki (the 13th diary holder in the visual novel) would be with the main diary holders and can finally kick takaos ass for almost killin her sister! XD
Honestly your right, but bc of plot armor minene ofc being the favorite will survive but it would be funny and interesting to see Takao getting his ass beat by a girl XD
So, one day out of curiosity when I was looking at the Japanese Future Diary manga, I noticed these little "about me" sections that Esuno wrote on each of the volume covers. They seemed like just some random facts about him, like how he doesn't eat shellfish because of the way they look (same buddy, same), but two in particular stood out to me, from volumes 1 and 2:
TL 1: A photo from the day the sky was pink. It's me, Esuno, who takes loads of photos with a digital camera for work. Recording things means looking back on the past, but what if you could record the future?... What would you do? That's what "Future Diary" is about.
TL 2: It's me, Esuno, who also takes nice pictures of flowers. I usually take photos of all sorts of things, but, since I'm thinking of using them as work material for later, I only end up taking pictures of weird stuff. I'm probably the only one who visits a tourist attraction and goes out of their way to photgraph a bench.
At first this seems normal, until you realize that one of Esuno's characters has a pretty close connection to flowers and digital cameras...
DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUUN!!!
So, although it was never outright confirmed, I'm going to assume the inspiration for her character came out of Esuno's interest in photography and nice flower pictures.
Azami Kirisaki, the titular thirteenth diary owner, from Mirai Nikki 13-nin-me no Nikki Shoyūsha (Future Diary: The 13th Diary Owner RE:WRITE) for PSP.
Pt. 2
I've made future diary!!!!
Here's a full line up
Behold the inevitable follow-up to this post, now with the wallpaper images for the remaining seven diary holders - including the titular “13th” from the game, Azami Kirisaki. Thanks again to @reversed-yukiteru-amano for these.
((I don't know if you already done it but could we have your Ranking of Mirai Nikki's characters?
Starting with the one you hate/dislike to your fav one, with reason if possible :> ))
((Ooh, sure thing! I don't remember if I actually did something similar in the past, but I think I've grown enough to have some of my viewpoints change. Now, my ranking of Mirai Nikki characters from least to most favorite!))
13.) Minene Uryuu: Sorry, but I do not vibe with the blatant author favoritism. She's an interesting character, yes, but she just gets away with stuff that the other characters would not be able to do.
12.) Yuno Gasai: This ranking is mainly for personal reasons that I will neither discuss nor disclose.
11.) John Bacchus: Although interesting enough with him being a foreigner and the mayor of Sakurami, it does little when he wants to evolve humanity into higher beings, has a fascination with Rome and Germany, and formed an Apprentice Diary based surveillance system similar to the Party in Orwell's 1984. Yikes...
10.) Karyuudo Tsukishima: The man with a great mustache who lives in a mansion filled with dogs. He is living the dream for a lot of people. Aside from that and his rocky relationship with Hinata, he's alright. (Side note: @legendaryfacecoffee sorry for not ranking your man and his possibly Jewish pal any higher. I just couldn't find it in me to do it :-( )
9.) Azami Kirisaki: Kind of a cop-out since she's not in the actual manga or anime and only in the visual novel, but I will still give her a spot on this list. A great sister and the one who whooped Takao's ass, she's good, but we don't know enough about her to give her a higher rank.
8.) Yukiteru Amano: The little pissbaby that we follow throughout the story! Mockery aside, my views of him have changed since I first watched the anime. At first, I brushed him off as a naive and whiny baby, but after growing up, I realize that the naivete he has is possibly goodness and hope. Most of the Diary Holders have a sort of callousness to them that's most likely a product of their environment. Very few of them don't display such behavior and I believe that one of them is Yuki. Compared to everyone else with a backstory, he's not that messed up. Sure, having your parents divorce and being bullied is bad, but that's nothing compared to what Reisuke, Tsubaki, and his own girlfriend went through. With his lighter life experiences, he retained the goodness and hope, mistaken as naivete, that the other Diary Holders seemed to have lost with their experiences. He's not as high since I still think of him as a little whiny, but he's not low either.
7.) Ai Mikami and Marco Ikusaba: The beauty and the brawn. They're a cute couple and I like their dynamic. Ai's abandonment issues stemming from her mother seems to cause some problems, but they make it work. Unfortunately, their ranking is dampened by Marco not having his own backstory like Ai, but they're good enough here.
6.) Kamado Ueshita: The absolute unit of a mother of Sakurami! Love her! She's the mother that ever mothered. If the game was never held, she would've been the best contender to become God. However, that is unfortunately not enough to get a high rank to be my favorite.
5.) Reisuke Houjou: Our little chemistry prodigy and Akise's sidekick. He's so cute and I want nothing more than to adopt him from his terrible household. His intelligence also seems to be a double-edged sword as it gave Yuno and Yuki a run for their money, but it also isolates him from his fellow peers as seen in the clinic where he's sitting all by himself and at the park where Murmur was the only one to play with him. Poor baby. Where's CPS when you need them?
4.) Yomotsu Hirasaka: Our favorite little guy! The tokusatsu obsessed vigilante with his DIY costume! Love him a lot. He so pathetic that it's endearing. His previous attempts at being a hero always failed, but he still gives it his all. Even after becoming a true hero in the Third World, he still gets made fun off by kids to the point where he's crying and you still want to see him succeed. He's faced hurdle after hurdle ever since he was (most likely) born blind in a city that is hostile to his kind and lives in a rundown shack in the woods with only his chipmunks as company, and yet you can't help but want to see him succeed when life wants him to fail.
3.) Keigo Kurusu: What a shocker, the DILF cop being so high up on a ranking made by a fan role-playing as said DILF. Anyway, blatant daddy issues aside, at first I liked him for his design and then we got to see more of his life and backstory and I loved him. He's just a man who wants to support his family and save his dying son. Also, he was beaten by his father because of stealing a toy and that molded him into becoming the man he is today. We don't know the full details but we can speculate that his father let anger get the better of him and beat him. I believe that this caused Keigo to begin bottling up his anger as to not become like his father.
2.) Tsubaki Kasugano: Not quite number one, but it's better than near dead last like her placement in the Survival Game. Anyway, I just like everything about her. Her design, her backstory, and how she's an imperfect victim that's been molded by the cruel environment she was forced to grow up in after Funatsu took over the temple. She's multifaceted in a sense that she hides her true self behind masks. The most outward is her polite self, the figurehead that's supposed to be mature and lead her followers into salvation. Then underneath that is her anger, the wrath boiling beneath the surface waiting for a chance for retribution against the world that tortured her. Finally, her true self, a grieving child tasked with upholding a giant lie and longing for her parents once more. It's quite sad that this side of Tsubaki was only seen when her fate had been sealed with a dart to her scroll.
1.) Takao Hiyama: Was this even surprising? Like, my entire blog shifted into Mirai Nikki after reading Takao fanfic on AO3. (Side note: @thatonekats thanks for commissioning your friend for that fic! None of this would've been possible without you <3) Anyway, on a serious note, despite being the first Diary Holder Yuki and Yuno face up against, we know practically nothing about him. No backstory, no clear motive other than taking sadistic delight from his victims, and no goal on why he wants to become God. I've done so much theorizing, psychoanalyzing, and lore-building that he's practically my OC at this point! It's gotten to a point that when the translation for the Mirai Nikki Visual Novel released (thank you for all your hard work and dedication @sunniedesi), the Takao we got there is different from the Takao I made up from the scraps we were left with. He's so much to me. He's my Muse and my source of anguish, my beloved and beloathed, the one I dream of at night only to think of nothing but torturing him at day. He, at the same time, means everything since I fleshed him out as a character from the ground up and also nothing since that is what his author gave him. Honestly, I don't think I'll have it any other way.
((Now, onto the side characters! [I'm not gonna number them since I'm not exactly sure how many there are exactly.]))
Funatsu: KILL YOURSELF, YOU SENILE SCUMBAG! You should've been the one that died in that car crash, not Tsubaki's parents! I hope you land in the hottest pits of Hell so that it can finally warm up your cold, dead heart!
Ushio and Saika Gasai: The physically absent dad and the emotionally abusive mom. Absolutely awful parents. Thank God they got their shit together in the Third World because the only way their marriage would end is either through a divorce or if Saika snapped and killed Ushio.
Kurou Amano: Somehow has worse debt than a gambler like Shinji. Financially irresponsible to the point of if costing his marriage with Rea. Even after the divorce, he failed to visit Yuki unlike Rea. Sold out his own son just so he can get his debt erased, took his son's parachute when his plan failed and the tower was collapsing, and stabbed and killed his ex-wife when she questioned where their son is. Honestly, I'm glad that he wasn't present for Yuki's life after the divorce because Yuki doesn't deserve a father like him.
Shinji and Yayoi Houjou: Similar deal to Ushio and Saika, but they at least weren't neglectful to Reisuke until after Funatsu took charge of the temple while Ushio and Saika were abusive long before that.
Deus Ex Machina: God of Time and Space. Interesting design and lore, but points are lost for starting wars for fun and possibly the reason why certain Diary Holders have awful lives.
Murmur: The imp. A cheeky little demon that likes to mess with everyone. Betrayed Deus, but I can't really fault that since the Murmur we've been following is under Yuno's command and serves her.
Masumi Nishijima: A good guy who took up the mantle at the station when Keigo kicked the bucket. However, marrying a terrorist who has killed many religious leaders and bombed a school and a hospital will cost you your ranking.
Rea Amano: Stuck in development hell. A decent enough mom, but she shouldn't push her responsibilities to Yuno nor encourage her son to have sex.
Moe Wakaba: Yuki's first love who suspiciously looks like his mom. Not much to say except that I just know that, in the Third World, Rea and Kurou find it a bit weird that their son is dating someone who looks a lot like his mother.
Ryuji Kurosaki: The devoted secretary. Not much to comment about him. I like to think that he's secretly in love with Bacchus and he's jealous that he married Kamado instead of him.
Taro Nanba: Copycat. Other than being standoffish and good with explosives, not much else is known about him. His Copy Diary also provides some insight as to how he views and acts around others as it can assimilate the Future Diary of another, flaws and all.
Kasumi Kirisaki: Possibly the only survivor of Takao's killings. Very sweet and I like her dynamic with Akise. Unfortunately, we don't know enough about her from the visual novel.
Natsuko Ooshima: Gone too soon. From what we could tell from Minene's imitation, she seems to be a very energetic and peppy young woman. Other than that, not much to comment on.
Orin Miyashiro: Future director of Mother's Home Orphanage. A very kind girl who took pity on Tsubaki when they were enemies in the Survival Game. Plus, her and Ai trying to hook up Tsubaki with her crush is cute, even if they messed up.
Mao Nonosaka: Number One Hinata Lover and master of candid photography. Loved the iconic moment when she absolutely decked Kosaka. Would be higher is she wasn't so obsessed with Hinata's chest.
Ouji Kosaka: Local bully turned bestie. Don't know how Yuki managed to befriend him, but you gotta give him props for letting his friends use his mansion as a hideout and giving Yuki the one-two when he was after Kamado.
Hinata Hino: Tomboy supreme. Got off on a rough patch when she used Yuki to bait out Akise, but she became an earnest friend to him after. Also, love how she and Mao humble Kosaka sometimes. Long live lesbians!
Aru Akise: The Second Coming of Kaworu Nagisa. Smart and compassionate, willing to go above and beyond to help not only Yuki but also Kamado and Tsubaki (in the Paradox manga). Also, love how Deus made him gay for Yuki since Yuki is so boring that God thought no one other than Yuno would look into him.
((Wow, that was long! Hopefully you all enjoyed my rankings! If you find a ranking you didn't like, feel free to tell me why you think they deserve a different rank!))
