Dumont High Dune with a Mountain Backdrop by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: What drew me into this setting was the look across the Mojave Desert to the sand dunes and then more distant mountains with its ridges and peaks.

I Asked If I Should Pray and Found Out I Was Already Having a Conversation by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While walking around the Lake Shastina area in Edgewood, California. The setting is to the southeast with a view across a grassy meadow that is likely a portion of the dried up lakebed. What I wanted to capture with this image was to get down behind some of the nearby grasses, angling my Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera slightly downward, and bring the horizon a little higher into the image. I wanted the distant forest with hillsides and Mount Shasta to be higher into the image. I figured that would bring out more of a sense of grandeur with the setting. The rest was closing down on the aperture to bring out more of a starburst look with the sun and working with the exposure to not blow any highlights while still being able to later pull out the more shadowed areas later on in post-production.

Embracing the Mountain-kind Spirit! by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting I took in as I walked around and explored the Lake Shastina area in northern California. The view is looking to the southeast across a grassy meadow with an evergreen forest and hillsides on the distant side. Mount Shasta is the amazing backdrop with its peaks and ridges seemingly rising into the skies above.

Tune Into Experiencing Life in Voyageurs National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: I captured this image with a view extending to the southeast while standing at an overlook to Kettle Falls in Voyageurs National Park. One can see the waters flowing downstream into the Rainy Lake portion of this Boundary Waters area. The border with Canada is to the image right (south) and the US side on the left (north). On a side note, this is one of the few locations where one can look south into Canada while being in the United States.

Yellow Wildflowers in a Field (Waterton Lakes National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While at the First Oil Well in Western Canada National Historic Site in Waterton Lakes National Park with a view looking to the southeast across a field of yellow wildflowers. My thought on composing this image was to get down low and use the LiveView LCD screen to capture a look through this small field of wildflowers to my front. I felt getting down low would allow me to capture a look across this field as well as having the wildflowers fill the image from edge to edge and top to bottom. I did not want to look downward at the wildflowers.
