Feeling a Cool Breeze As I Stand on the Shores of Herbert Lake (Banff National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the south while taking in views across lake waters to more distant shores with evergreens and then snowcapped peaks of the Bow Range with Fairview Mountain, Mount Aberdeen, Mount Temple, and Little Temple (based on the PeakVisor app on my iPhone). What drew me into this view was the layered look with the lake waters, then evergreen forest, and then finally the mountain peaks.

I loved how the evergreen trees and mountains beyond helped create a layered look with the image. The rest of the image composition was finding a spot where the trees and mountains lined up to complement the lake while also minimizing the bright sunlight across the image.

For this image, I was walking along a downward slope of a dune ridge and was able to capture a sweeping view from that high ground, looking across the wave upon wave of sand dunes.

Wonders of Autumn Colors in a Nearby Forest by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A forest setting I came across at a stream crossing with Bear Creek in Royal, AR on a rainy and overcast day. The view is looking to the south. I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation while playing around as I learned how to work with DxO PhotoLab 3 that I’d recently purchased after moving away from Capture NX2.

My Love Letters to Voyageurs National Park, Captured in Images by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: I captured this image while walking around and exploring the area around Ellsworth Rock Gardens in Voyageurs National Park. The view extends to the south beyond a nearby grove of trees with waters of Kabetogama Lake beyond. I took advantage of the higher ground. I was on and angled my Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera slightly downward so that I could create more of a sweeping view, looking down upon a portion of the rock garden and then other areas of the national park with the trees, lake, and skies above.

Always Jasper National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the south while taking in views across the waters of Leach Lake with a backdrop of mountains. This was along Alberta Highway 93A in Jasper National Park. What I wanted to capture with this image was a layered look across the setting. Nearby would be some foreground interest with the grassy meadow, before the lake waters, and then more distant shoreline with its forested landscape. The backdrop was the ridges and peaks of Mount Fryatt and Whirlpool Mountain. I angled my Nikon SLR camera slightly downward to create more of a sweeping view across this national park landscape.

Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes and Tucki Mountain (Death Valley National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the south while walking and taking in views across dune ridges and flats at the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes in Death Valley National Park. With this image, I decided to angle my Nikon SLR camera slightly downward and capture a sweeping view across the sands to my front. That would then bring the distant mountains higher into the image and perhaps create more of a sense of grandeur.
