Looking Across the Joshua Tree National Park to Quail Mountain Hidden Amongst the Clouds by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: At a roadside pullout along the main park road, not long after passing through the park entrance. This is in Joshua Tree National Park with a view looking to the south to a cloud hidden Quail Mountain. This is also where I came across the first signs of snow in the national park. My thought on composing this image was to have a balanced, leveled-on view across the landscape to my front. I would include some foreground of the plant-life and newly fallen snow, but have that balanced with the more distant mountainside and clouds coming in. I was able to ensure some definition in the clouds by metering for the highlights and also using the ClearView Plus tool in DxO PhotoLab 6.

Hiking the High Peaks in Pinnacles National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the west while taking in views along the hillside of the pinnacle formations present on the High Peaks. This was while walking the High Peaks Trail in Pinnacles National Park. My thought on composing this image was to take advantage of the hiking trail leading off into the image. I liked the way the trees on this portion of the hillside helped to create a layered look from near to far with the more distant pinnacle formations.

What Adventure Awaits Me Today! (Bryce Canyon National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While walking the Queens Garden Trail with a view looking to the south in Bryce Canyon National Park. My thought on composing this image was do use the high ground I was located on an angle my Nikon SLR camera slightly downward as to create a sweeping view across another portion of the trail I would later walk. This happened to be nearby some tall hoodoos and used them to frame the side of the image and draw the viewer’s attention to the more distant portions of Bryce Amphitheater.

Looking to the Goosenecks (Capitol Reef National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While walking the Chimney Rock Trail with a view looking to the south at the Goosenecks portion in Capitol Reef National Park. Angling my Nikon SLR camera slightly downward would, in my mind, create more of a sweeping view looking across this varied landscape leading up to it. That would in turn raise the horizon higher into the image and perhaps create more of a sense of grandeur in the image captured.
