Make Time (Indiana Dunes National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A look back to the west-northwest across the waves and waters of Lake Michigan as they were rushing to the shore in this part of Indiana Dunes National Park. I was heading off to start the walk along the Dune Succession Trail. Hearing the rushing waters with the wind blowing was a definite draw, and what I wanted to capture with this image. For post-production, I then decided to once again try out the sky replacement setting in Photoshop with this image. The sunset colors with the clouds definitely seemed appropriate for this national park setting in what I had wanted to experience in person. So the skies are part of the Adobe stock images in Photoshop but all else is captured with my Nikon D850 SLR camera. I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 4 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

A Wide-Open World Awaits Us All (Petrified Forest National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A view looking to the west across a setting covered with sections of petrified wood log while walking in the Giant Logs area of Petrified Forest National Park. My thinking in composing this image was to use the nearby eroded formation and toadstool as a frame that would then lead the viewer into the image with the many fragments of petrified wood, rolling hillsides of desert prairie grass and finally plateaus off in the distance. I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 4 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

Getting My National Park Fix in White Sands National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the northwest along the Loop Drive in White Sands National Park. I had two thoughts while composing this image. One was to capture a sweeping view while on this sand dune ridge. I could that by raising the horizon a little higher into the image. The other thought was that this was not too far from the Alkali Flat Trailhead, which I would be following the next morning to do that trail with several miles of hiking!

Any Excuse to Visit Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting extending to the west-northwest while exploring and taking in views across in Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park. The look I wanted to capture with this image was across the waterfall. I liked the contrast between the river waters with its darker colors and those of the waterfall with its brighter white colors. I felt that the forest and trees both on the near and far side also helped to frame this Ontario provincial park setting.

Shenandoah-South Section with Lewis Peak and Rockytop (Shenandoah National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the west-northwest while taking in views across the ridges and mountains present of the Northern Blue Ridge at the Rockytop Overlook. This is in Shenandoah National Park. What drew me into this setting was the ridges with the layering that seemingly came one after the other, leading off to a distant horizon.
