The Full Setting of the Famous Brooks Falls and Brown Bears in Katmai National Park & Preserve by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: I captured this image at the Rifles Platform with a view looking to the north at Brooks Falls while observing brown bears in Katmai National Park.  I pulled back a lot on the focal length to capture much more of the falls and surrounding area. My thinking was to include all the bears present and capture the feeling of this wildlife and national park setting.

Crater Mountain by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: This was a roadside pulloff along the North Cascades Scenic Highway heading back to Ross Lake National Recreation Area. What drew me into this image…well, other than the obvious amazing view of Crater Mountain was the way the ridges seemingly crisscrossed each other bringing a focus, so to speak, to the snowcapped mountain off in the distance.

A Sideward View of the Hickman Bridge (Capitol Reef National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: With some work walking around this one edge of the Hickman Bridge, I was able to find a good enough angle looking across the bridge with the large rocks and boulders scattered about and patterns of striations and layers across the rock surface. It also seemed to work together with the color contrasts of yellows and reds with the blues of the skies above.

Ridges and Peaks of the New York Mountains by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While at a rest area pullout along I-40 as I headed west on my drive to Joshua Tree National Park. The view is looking to the north-northwest to the New York Mountains. Using the peakbagger site, I was able to identify a few of the peaks, but Table Top was the most identifiable one and in the image center. My thought on composing this image was to zoom in to this one section of the mountain range and center it while keeping my Nikon SLR camera more or less leveled-on. The idea would be to have the sage brush another plant-life heading off to the horizon, and the blue skies and clouds above to balance that.

Escaping Stress While I Spend Time in Capitol Reef National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the north while taking in views across eroded formations and the monocline with sandstone cliff walls of the Waterpocket Fold in Capitol Reef National Park. My thinking in composing this image was to find the right focal length to pullback to include enough of the towering cliff walls while having the blue skies and clouds above to be that color contrast to complement the earth-tones in the lower portion of the image.

I thinking in composing this image was the capture the varied landscape and trees present. The blue skies above would be that color contrast to the earth tones present in the lower portion of the image.
