My thought on composing this image was to center of the ridges and peaks of Castle Mountain in the image, but pull back on the focal length to include some of the nearby forest of evergreen trees.

My Navigations in Yosemite National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While enjoying a ride along Tioga Road not far from the Ten Lakes Trailhead area in Yosemite National Park. The image captured has a view looking to the north. With this image, I decided to pull back with the focal length and have a portion of the road to my front along with the nearby, surrounding forest. I felt this would create a leading line into the image. There was haze present from nearby wildfires that kind of faded away a more distant ridgeline and hillside of trees. I later used the ClearView Plus tool in DxO PhotoLab 5 to bring out more of the details present there.

My Photography Notes from Here and There (Death Valley National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While walking along a dune ridge in the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes of Death Valley National Park. The setting is looking to the north across the many layers of dune ridges with varying shades and tones of sand colors. In the image, I wanted to focus on the changing colors as a contrast in the image. Nearby were more of the brighter, colored sands from the washed out area. Beyond that came the more typical yellow/orange sand colors, and then finally another set of bluer hues present with the ridges and snowcapped peaks off in the distance.
