I am so excited to write for more human!reader & toon relationships bc I think the dynamic is inherently angsty and that is so delicious.
I think that the Toons would have an inheritely odd relationships to humans. Similarly to the darkner/lightner relationship in delta rune, I think that Toons might have an tendency to want to please Human. Either in an Entertainment standpoint or a more personal servant standpoint, they were made for Humans. I think because they were created with Human Enjoyment in mind, they are "programmed" to enjoy working for Humans.
Upsetting a human must be devastating for them. Not only because I think their limited and sheltered life experience shape their minds to be more innocent, but because they are failing their innate purpose and though they do not understand it, it feels like they are doing something very wrong deep within their soul.
Of course, I think it would be possible for a Toon and a Human to have a completely normal and healthy relationship. I am just also of the mindset that it's gonna be a difficult road to get there as I don't think the Toons view themselves on equal footing with humans. ESPECIALLY adult humans.
I think when It comes to adult humans, especially post malfunction incident, there may be this idea that "they can save them". Because in the past, adults were providers. They helped smooth problems between themselves, helped maintain them via washing them/taking care of them when they are sick/cooking for them, etc.
I can clearly imagine Toons looking up to a Adult!Human! Reader because of them. For guidance, for help, for love and affection. It'd be easy for them to get attached and become dependent, craving comfort so badly after all the pain they've gone through. They want things to go back to normal so badly.
I might write more scenarios exploring it later. Idek if any of this is coherent lol. I'm very tired as of writing this
As I started to sketch out concepts for redesigns, I asked myself a question:
"If I was Arthur Walton, what would I be designing this character for? What would be their purpose be for the cartoon?"
I categorized it into the two major categories of ENTERTAINMENT and EDUCATION. Here's what I think each character would be canonically designed for. This is completely opinions based and has VERY LITTLE Backing to it. It was just for fun.
SPECIAL EXCEPTIONS
Dyle
As it is implied that he was never designed to be on the show in the first place. It seems he was designed to be a worker to the trains instead. Which leads me to believe Delilah Keen and Arthur Walton might've considered making Toons to replace Human Workers to further cut costs.
Shrimpo
I think Shrimpo was created to be Villain/Antagonist. Someone to root against. The show would need someone to start problems and so Shrimpo would be created for this role and purpose.
HOLIDAY TOONS
Holiday Toons are all mostly Entertainment while minoring in Holiday Origin/Customs Education. All of these characters would be one note and gimmicky:
Bobette Carolynne and the Christmas Toons.
Rudie
Coal
Ginger
Gourdy Halloway and the Halloween Toons.
Soulvester
Eclipse
Ribecca
Bassie Bloomington and the Spring Toons.
Eggson
Cocoa
Flyte
MAIN CHARACTERS
All Main Characters are mostly a mixture of both entertainment and education. Entertainment as they are the main characters of the show and need to captivate the audience, and education as their hobbies would make for excellent teaching material.
Astro Novalite
Astro most likely has a focus on dreams, Astrology/Astronomy, and mythology. Mythology mostly in the form of talking about constellations and the stories that come from it.
Dandicus "Dandy" Dancifer
Dandy is likely only Entertainment. Dandy would be the audience surrogate character where we learn everything through him. He's also not really stated to have any hobbies or interests other than a potential taste for classical music.
Sprout Seedly
Sprout would have a focus on cooking, baking, and potentially gardening. Making him more of an Education based character.
Shelly Fossilian
Shelly is obviously more education based. Having a focus on fossils, dinosaurs, and archeology.
Vee V1
Vee is the only character of the Main Leads who I think would be entirely Entertainment based, mostly focusing on her Gameshow aspect. Though, she could potentially have Education segments based on the creation of TV and Film or general electronic based education.
Pebble Dancifer Jr.
As far as I am aware, Pebble (along with Coal) are simply meant to be dog characters that serve as companions to the mains.
Pebble would be mainly entertainment based with a small chance of being educational. More specifically, I think Pebble's education segments would be able responsibility and how to take care of and handle animals.
SIDE CHARACTERS
Entertainment Based Toons
Circus Trio
Blot, Looey, and Yatta would be designed on entertainment. The only way I can see them being Education based is if they leaned into potential Culture origins.
Like Yatta having her piñata origins be from Mexico, Blot having his pantomiming Act be connected to Greek or Italian origins, and Looey either referencing Balloon Twisting coming about in America.
Miscellaneous Entertainment Toons
Boxten
Potentially, his character would be poking fun at his anxious nature or having him lean into the music box nature and having him be a musician.
Connie
Connie was specifically noted to be a Halloween Toon that was too popular to be kept to the sidelines.
Flutter
Flutter could potentially be an education based Toon starring in Entomology, however due to her mute nature, she most likely wouldn't be the one teaching.
Gigi
Gigi could also be Origin Educational like the Circus Trio, originating from Japan.
Glisten
Glisten's character COULD potentially be educational in a "Self-Care" regard. Most likely he's a fun self-centered characters who's funny for being over-dramatic.
Poppy
Poppy is here to be funny and promote the soda brand. She's described as hyper and "addicted" to soda which would be a point to laugh at or a way to nudge viewers into buying soda.
Razzle & Dazzle
Would fall into a similar vein as the Circus Trio but would instead focus on Theater Production.
Rodger
Rodger was originally labeled as an Education Toon, but I actually see him mainly being used for mystery/ "Blues Clues" type episodes.
Toodles
I can see Toodles being specifically created as a companion for Rodger. More specifically, I think she would be a sillier detective companion to combat Rodger's serious nature,
Education Based Toons
Brightney
Brightney would teach about power of reading and potentially have a nighttime segment where she reads Bedtime Stories.
Brightney would also be a stereotypical smart bookworm character that would have the answer to any question, because she "learned about it in a book!"
Brusha, Goob, and Scraps
Brusha and the Craft Siblings would be all about Art!
Brusha, I imagine, to teach about Art History and have a more "serious" art sessions where she teaches you how to draw.
Goob and Scraps would have those DIY, "Make This At Home!" segments where you create something with them side by side.
Cosmo
Cosmo would focus on baking segments you could potentially follow.
Finn
Finn is obviously all about the sport of fishing and Marine Biology.
Teagan
Teagan would be all about teaches kids manners and how to be polite.
Tisha
And finally, I believe that Tisha would teach kids about cleaning up after yourself. Similarly to Teagan, she would also be about teaching manners as well.
I've been playing a lot of Dandy's World these past few days and gotta say, I am feeling: Paternal.
Learning about the lore and feeling so sad for the toons. They are so young (even though I know they are ambiguously aged lol). I still look at them like: that's my daughter. That's baby. I feel so bad for them, I want to take care of them.
Where are those FNAF:SB style fics where you save them from the Gardenview and take care of them when you need them.
It's gonna be both a fic and comic. I'm struggling to talk about bc it's currently nameless, but placeholder is "Gardenview: Unmanned" or Aftergarden is also being considered but if you have any ideas, feel free to comment.
At the moment, I'm currently going through and reimagining lore to fit this new story. It's a bit difficult as I keep going "Oh! I should play the game to get reference pictures for the center," Then I get distracted and play for like 4 hours straight lol. I'm also redesigning almost all of the twisteds to be a little more scary hehe.
The main issue I'm having though, is casting. There are around 40 toons to write for so I'm having to go through all of them to connect them all and write little arcs for them. That's mostly what's keeping me.
Main Question is...
Who do you think would be survivors canonically and who would definitely be twisteds?
Bit of an experiment post, today. I had the random design spree of making lovecore- themed object characters. I was just going to post em as they were, but then remembered that Adoptables exist. So they are available for sale!
A long time ago, (maybe I think when Chapter 2 first came out), I made these keychains of SCC! However, I never ended up promoting or due to my own shyness.
With this new photos up, I wanted to share that I got a limited stock of 16 of these left! After that, I will not be making another pair of this specific design (although I might make a different SCC one in the future.)
They are available for 7 USD on my Etsy or on my Ko-Fi.
