bleach; spirit beast au
unlike the dispatch beast au, which was more of a passing thought that i needed to get down lest it drive me crazy, i've been turning this au idea in my head since i started watching bleach like a month ago. please ignore my absolute dog water art, i just wanted to get my ideas down on digital paper: [as of right now, i am up to bleach episode 196]
𝟏 —͟͟͞͞★ // humans are the same as they are in bleach; nothing really special about them + they can't see hollows or soul reapers
𝟐 —͟͟͞͞★ // when a human dies they're soul manifests as an animal. typically the animal they are is the animal that best represents them as a person. human souls usually manifest "feral", in the sense that they aren't anthropomorphized beyond intelligence. it makes it easy to tell them apart from the soul city natives. (yes, this phenomenon is the basis for the human idea of spirit animals)
𝟑 —͟͟͞͞★ // soul reapers, and anyone born in the soul society really, manifest as anthropomorphic animals. it's largely believed that the more reiryoku you have the more anthropomorphized you are. hence the "usually" part about humans - it is possible for a human with a higher than normal amount reiryoku soul to manifest as anthropomorphic.
𝟒 —͟͟͞͞★ // so, all humans are born with a very small amount of reiryoku. that reiryoku is converted into your soul-form when you die. however, certain humans have higher amounts than other. those humans often manifest what's know as Soul Traits - basically, they're soul manifestation peaking through before they die. only soul beings and other humans with similar high amounts of reiryoku can see these Soul Traits, which is a bit of a double edge sword. many people born with traits, or who gain these traits as they grow older, tend to freak out - especially when no one knows what they're talking about/believes them when they point the traits out. eventually, they just give up mentioning them. usually, the traits that manifest are animal ears, animal tails, patterns on the skin, horns, sharp teeth, and better senses.
𝟓 —͟͟͞͞★ // hollows, born from human souls, are the twisted visage of a human soul's manifestation. for a multitude reason, these souls become plagued by an endless hunger, never to be truly fulfilled so long as they exist. their bodies expand and contort, growing into something more, something awful. hollows are often feral in the traditional sense - unable to think, consumed my uncontrollable rage, hysteria, and most of all, the need to feed.
