My Dutch Language journey #2
So I had a dream to be able to communicate with Dutch people using their language without bigger obstacles. In the last few months it became step by step true.
Jan 2019 - moved into the Netherlands
Feb 2019 - started course for complete beginners
Jul 2019 - A2 level certificate
Sep 2019 - started course for intermediates
Feb 2020 - B1 level certificate
Feb 2020 - started course for advanced to get fluent
June 2020 - B2 level certificate for speaking. My writing and reading skills are still at B1.
Now I can really have a nice conversation with locals but there’s still so much to learn! My new dream is to get my Dutch to a similar level as my English. Together with my native Czech I would be then really fluent in 3 languages. So what do I do to further improve my Dutch:
Reading Dutch books. I read aloud children books to my daughters. Now I also read more complex adult books to myself. I always use a Dutch explanatory dictionary (so a monolingual one) and search up the unfamiliar words.
Conversation clubs. Even during the lockdown, we continued with weekly conversations online.
Speaking. I speak to Dutch friends and colleagues or just people in shops or playgrounds using Dutch as much as possible
I am actually proof-reading a Dutch textbook for students at level C1 :)
