Let me introduce you all to Mars, the baby squirrel. He was abandoned in the middle of the road path when I found him and would’ve met a morbid fate eventually if I didn’t stop to move him out of the way of traffic. We spent a few minutes together and I attempted to call any animal shelter number I knew of in my area. However, there was no responses from any of the lines I called. Hoping that the mother would be nearby, I gently laid him down below the closest tree he was discovered beside and then went off on my way. I don’t know what happened to Mars after that but I knew that there wasn’t much else I could do for him. I realized how powerless my ignorance truly made me for and how the urge to save can morph into a poisonous one without proceeding with caution. Sometimes, it’s important to accept such moments as they come. Sometimes; kindness, understanding and love is the only thing we can offer.
