I have such weird and contradictory feelings about this fic, oh my gosh. On one hand, when I read it back I’m embarrassed by how badly written it feels to me (although the first chapter has truly stood the test of time imo (; ), but... it’s also the first long-form story I ever completed and made me a “name” in this fandom and came out of such a fucking happy time for the people who ship these two, and the messages/comments I’ve gotten about how this story helped people through Coda is... it’s something else. So when you say it’s your favorite story of mine I cringe but I’m also so so glad :)

If anyone is still having trouble, neither one is Bethyl related. Since that wasn't what happened on screen.

Exactly. And also because the definition of ‘philia’ the way it is used in these type of words is ‘an abnormal fondness’, ‘craving’, ‘affinity for’ etc. It implies that the person is continually into the thing being referred to. This is not Daryl. Daryl does not have an abnormal fondness for anything (unless you count his crossbow ;)). He wasn’t pursuing Beth in any way. He couldn’t even bring himself to continue their conversation at the table about why he changed his mind. He’s shy & unsure and not at all what these words would describe...not to mention of course that Beth is not a child. But we’ve repeated that so many times at this point it’s like beating our heads against a wall.

So if these people want to insist on being wrong & making themselves look stupid, then that’s their thing.

Apparently. I guess they’re using Norman’s age, which is 47. So if you say Beth is 17 then yeah he’d be 30 years older. But Daryl is not Norman’s age so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

BRAVO. This is absolutely how I feel and how I perceived Daryl and his relationship with Beth. And I have seen plenty over my 48 years.

Thank you. I’m just happy knowing people agree. I was really frustrated with that. I usually like living in my happy Bethyl world without worrying about all the negativity in the fandom. But you know, the concept is basic when it comes to ships. It’s all about the love.
