Streamline
Participants hold a flutter board above their head while doing flutter kick across the length of the pool. They can progress to no flutter board and just doing streamline by extending the arms above the head while kicking on the way back. This works on a strong kick and keeping the body at the water surface.
Chipmunk Cheeks
Tell participants they are going to be chipmunks. Have them pretend to fill their mouths with nuts, puffing out their cheeks so it looks like their mouth is full. Get them to perform their glide on their back with their chipmunk cheeks.
Princess Transformation
Hold a hula-hoop and tell participants that it will transform them into any princess or superhero they would like to be. Ask the participant to shout out who they want to transform in to before they glide through the hula-hoop. When they glide back, they are that character.
Colours
Have participants stand against the wall. Ask them to choose a colour in their head, but not to say it aloud. The instructor calls out different colors. When the participant hears the colour they chose, they perform their glide. Note: can be used for any glide
Under The Bridge
Hold a noodle out slightly over the surface of the water and say it is a bridge. Get each child to do their back glide under the bridge and try to reach their tummies up high to touch the bridge.
Baking Cookies
The instructor and children make cookie dough then put it on the cookie tray (flutter board). They then have to hold the flutter board/tray on their stomach as they perform their back glide for the cookies to bake. Pretend to eat all the cookies after.
Meatballs, Spaghetti
When the instructor calls out MEATBALL and the child holds on to the wall facing it curled up in a ball (looking like a meatball) then when the instructor calls out SPAGHETTI the child will blast off the wall like a long noodle, performing their back glide.
