Someone should write the story of a disgruntled employee who is just DONE™️ with their boss's stupid love life that keeps making their life at work more difficult. And by this I mean the background npc in any work of fiction where you have the romantic pairing doing some scandalous shit without caring where they are or who they're affecting, especially when they can get away with it because one or both of them have power over the others.

Like meeting derailed because the King's lover is on his lap the entire time?

Throws hands (and papers) in the air and leaves.

The CEO being late or cancelling another meeting because they decided to have impromptu relations with their lover?

They quit. They're done. Goodbye. Schedule your own shit next time boss! Etc lol

Of course especially on threadfics meant to be pwp we often have the person in power glaring at everyone else and threateningly making them work through their trysts as if it isn't happening and I just want someone to be like screw this and screw you (and not in the way u want)!

Yes, I am the weirdo who can't read these romance storylines without being like wow they are inconveniencing so many other people's lives bcuz they wanna hook up.

Maybe I'm projecting into the background npcs because I am far more likely to be a background npc lmao I identify with them... the background npcs should unionise

Does anyone else ever feel like the forgettable NPC to all their cool friends' game of life? They're out there, making a name and a life for themselves, doing all the things you want to do, meeting the people you want to meet, being recognized for their fabulous, glorious selves. And they should be. You're happy for them. And there you are also, trying your best to make a name for yourself, too. Trying to get someone to notice you. Notice the hard work you've put in for your own life. The hard work you've done to build your business, your project, your progress, your *YOU*. Notice you in the background. So you think: "Maybe if I watch them, I'll pick something up. Just maybe, if I stand close enough, or maybe if I stand just right, someone will notice me. Maybe my friend will remember me back here. But I don't want to try too hard, or seem too desperate." So you hang back, watch as the game unfolds, have your moment, smile, and then you're forgotten as a background character.
