This year, I've decided to start a new challenge. Introducing now: the Sonic Monthly AU challenge !

I pretty much pick one AU per month of the year (can be AUs from fancomics, fanfictions, art from any platforms) and make one fanart to post at the end of each month !

It's a way to force myself out of my comfort zone and draw backgrounds, and along with that I get to make fanart for cool artists who make stories I like, and maybe even introduce those cool AUs to other sonic fans !

Anyways, this piece is the first of the year and for the amazing @mint_dolphin27 on instagram ! This is from their Spirit AU, inspired by the beautiful animated move "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (2002)" !

I'd like to add that everyone is welcome to try that challenge too ! Just make your own list of sonic works you like and post one drawing of them per month using the #sonic monthly AU challenge tag !

Value studies!! Slowly getting the hang of this! I made these two up from my head, so next time I’m going to have to paint from a reference image for more accuracy.

This is really going to push my illustrations and comics into having stronger contrast and depth!
