So it’s been like a year and a half since we last went backpacking. Felt great to get out again.
Easy 5 miles out then 5 miles back the next day. She held up well with no soreness!

On the John Muir Trail
We’re heading out to go hang out along the 395 for a few days before heading up to Tahoe and Reno for the weekend. Super stoked.
Preparing her to carry her own gear when we go backpacking. Took a few mile walk with just 2L of water on board. Aside from having to get used to the new body width... she did fantastic and had 0 issues hauling a few liters of water around. <3
Looking forward to the next backpacking season. We’re going to try and get out a lot more since this year was dedicated to Aayla’s recovery.
Lake Agnew and Gem Lake
Aayla’s favorite hiking position is right behind the first human in the line. She kind of goes between being up front and being second in line. I always feel bad for others I go out with because they have a dog on their heels, but I honestly taught her to do that a while ago because I prefer it when it’s just me. I can look ahead for other hikers, animals and dangers.
Next step is to teach her that the behavior needs to be behind ME not just the first human.
Out of all the sticks she wanted the one that wouldn’t float.
One of these days we will get back out to go backpacking.
