You were warming up for Helswheel’s dance class. You had been trying to improve how many turns you could do. You suddenly felt someone wrap their arms around you. Looking in the dance room’s mirror, you smiled at Beckett’s reflection.
“Hey,” he greeted, kissing one of your temples.
“Hi,” you replied, turning to face him.
“What are you doing after school?” he asked.
“That depends…” you pretended to think for a moment, “are we going on a date?”
Beckett rolled his eyes at you, though you could see a small smile on his face. Slowly, you both moved until your back was against the dance mirror.
“Do you count me coming over to your house so you can help me study for a test as a date?” he asked, clearly annoyed. “My biology class is the worst.”
“Hey, don’t worry,” you said, placing your hands gently on his forearms. “I’ll help you study.”
“Thanks. You’re the best,” smiled Beckett.
Before either of you could move away from the dance mirror, the door opened. Sasha, Vanessa, and Carly entered the room. Your three friends paused, but didn’t say anything. Despite the fact that they were your friends, the three didn’t know that you and Beckett were dating.
Beckett moved away from you. He then picked up his dance bag, before he whispered, “I’ll see you later.”
You watched as he joined his friends, who had just entered the room as well. You then went to join Sasha, Carly, and Vanessa.
“What was that about?” asked Sasha.
You shrugged, “Nothing. Don’t worry about it.”
Carly and Vanessa glanced at one another, seemingly worried about something. Sasha stared across the room at Beckett.
You were going to say something, but Helswheel came into the room: “Let’s get started.”
You waited at your locker for Beckett, seeing as your class had completed early. The bell rang loudly and students flooded into the corridors, all of them happy to leave. Beckett noticed you rather quickly and approached you.
“Hey, I completely forgot that I have rehearsal,” he said, trying to quickly explain himself. “Do you think you could read my essay to see if I missed anything? I’ll come over as soon as I can.”
“Yeah, sure,” you agreed, obviously noticing how stressed out he was.
Beckett handed over his textbook and notebook. He sighed, not really excited to go to rehearsal. He really wanted to spend time with you.
“I love you,” he muttered, looking down shyly. “Thanks for helping me with this class.”
“You don’t need to thank me,” you smiled slightly, “but you do need to go to rehearsal.”
Beckett nodded, “I’ll come over as soon as I can.”
He walked away at a fast pace, seeing that he was late. You went in the opposite direction. Sasha, Carly, and Vanessa were all standing in the next corridor. They stood there, all of them with concerned expressions.
“Hey,” you greeted, “I have to–”
Vanessa interrupted you, “Why do you have a biology book?”
You paused for a moment, and then you replied, “I’m tutoring someone. Listen, I need to go, but I’ll see you tomorrow.”
As you went around your friends, you could hear them having a quiet conversation.
“She doesn’t have biology this term,” whispered Sasha.
“Yeah, but you know who does?” asked Carly.
Vanessa sighed, “Beckett.”
Beckett closed his textbook, sighing with relief. He had finally finished his essay for his biology class. He leaned back into your couch. He then wrapped an arm around you.
“What do you wanna do now?” he asked.
You shrugged, “We could order food and watch a movie?”
He nodded, “Okay. That sounds good.”
You went to go get your phone. As you ordered food for the two of you, Beckett stood behind you. You smiled to yourself when he started pressing kisses to one of your shoulders.
You ate lunch outside the next day. It took a few minutes for Sasha, Carly, and Vanessa to join you. You smiled at them before you focused your attention on your phone. There was awkward silence; you looked up when your friends didn’t speak. The three were just sitting there, all of them staring at you.
You raised your eyebrows, and asked, “What’s up?”
“We know Beckett’s been bothering you!” exclaimed Vanessa, as though she had been waiting to do so for a long time.
“What are you talking about?” you asked, completely confused.
“He’s clearly been bothering you!” glared Carly. “You were stuck against the mirror in the dance room!”
“You had a biology textbook for a class he has this term and the notebook you were carrying had his name on it. It was his textbook! You wouldn’t have it unless he’s making you do his homework for him,” explained Sasha.
“And now look at your shoulders!” exclaimed Vanessa. “Those are clearly bruises!”
You suddenly realized how your interactions with Beckett looked to your friends. You placed a hand on one of your shoulders, remembering the hickeys that Beckett had left. Before you could say anything, Carly spoke again.
“You know what? We’re gonna talk to him,” said Carly, gesturing to Sasha and Vanessa. “Come on!”
Your eyes widened as the three stood up. You stood up as well, following after your friends. You decided to take a shortcut, reaching the dance room before the others. You ran directly into Beckett. He caught you before you fell down.
Beckett grinned at you, “Woah! Where are you going?”
Before you could answer, your three angry friends burst into the room. Sasha glared at Beckett, pushing him away from you.
“Listen, Beckett, we know what you’ve been up to!” exclaimed Sasha.
“And it better stop right now!” demanded Carly.
Beckett, appearing incredibly confused, looked at you: “What are they talking about?”
You sighed, “They think… you’ve been… bothering me…”
Beckett’s facial expression turned to shock. Seeing that look on his face made you laugh quietly; hearing that made Beckett turn his attention to you. He couldn’t help but grin at you. Slowly, you both started to laugh. You moved beyond your extremely confused friends to stand by Beckett. Sasha, Carly, and Vanessa all stared at the two of you.
“Why are you two laughing?” asked Vanessa.
“Because of you three!” exclaimed Beckett.
“Beckett hasn’t been bothering me,” you said. “It’s actually the opposite. We’re dating.”
The three paused, all of them seemingly thinking about all the scenarios in which they had seen you and Beckett. You felt Beckett place one of his arms around you.
“Oh,” muttered Carly, slowly nodding.
“Yeah… that actually… makes… sense…” said Sasha.
“Well, this is awkward,” said Vanessa. “We’re gonna go now.”
The three started to slowly leave the room. You and Beckett tried to contain yourselves. With a few more awkward apologies, Sasha, Carly, and Vanessa sprinted out of the dance room. They all clearly felt awkward after your conversation.
You turned to Beckett and held out one of your hands, before you asked, “Shall we dance, Bradstreet?”
Beckett placed one of his hands in your own, and smiled, “We shall.”
