So...I see a lot of people hating on the Mega Starmie design. It's goofy, but the reference is going over our heads. The design is probably a reference to a 1956 Tokatsu Science Fiction film (think Godzilla era of practical affects and kaijus). It was called "Warning from Space" and was directed by Koji Shima. You can see in the flavor text in plza the extraterrestrial inference/allusion. That's because the film it was inspired by was a Space invasion movie essentially. I think there is also a 1960 DC villain (Starro) with a similar motif/is a reference to this film too?

So in short, this design wasn't made for you. That's ok. It was a reference to Japanese media that went over most of our heads. That is all. I'm curious to look into that else they referenced with the new mega evolutions.

Apparently if you mega evolve your starmie and then talk to the quest npc it just gets to stay mega

Or maybe she does, idk. This is a fan animatic I did of @kianamaiart OCs, go watch her show pilot if you haven’t already. A long time ago, Kiana posted pictures of the characters’ hypothetical Pokémon teams, and I thought of this. That being said, life got in the middle and it took me wayyyy too long to finish this, even their teams got updated and Aika doesn’t have a Starmie anymore lol. Let’s just imagine she stills has it and just leaves it on the PC. Anyway, I imagined Aika and Zira trying to have a friendly Pokémon battle and Eclipse being annoying. I got the audio from Kiana’s pilot and from the Pokémon games and show.

Btw I’m teaching myself how to storyboard and how to make animatics in general, this was a first attempt. If anyone got any tips or general feedback, it’s greatly appreciated
