SOCIAL DISTANCING DAY 181. A period of transition. Part 1. Those purple-y fall crocuses or whatever they are catch us off guard every year. Also, the zinnias in the lower right corner are someone else’s; we passed them on a dog walk at lunch and caught them being visited by a super-fluttery Monarch, a Red Admiral, *and* a bumblebee. Very popular. I think the tall phlox in the upper left corner is my favorite because of its smell but they didn’t do so well this year (like so many of us). Part 2. We all know what’s coming. The tiger lily stalks are actually kind of pretty in a death-y way. The apple tree is slowly dying, limb by limb. Compost is coming along and though I’m sure we have neither enough time nor enough sunlight to grow avocados it’s fun to see the little volunteers giving it a go. #backyardalmanac #aperiodoftransition #earlyfall #monarchbutterfly #redadmiralbutterfly #bumblebee #tallphlox #quarantinelife #quarantinecompost (at Noblesville, Indiana) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFLbgQagg7G/?igshid=1mpi434lp8vvq
