I am almost scared to ask, but it has consumed my feed so I must know; what is a bacteriophage?

Okay, deep breaths and stay calm self. Bacteriophages are a virus that only infect bacteria (and some species of archea but that is beside the point). They look like this:
The orange one is an artist's rendition, and the black and white on is an actual picture taken using a transmission electron microscope.
Theyre my main special interest and my url namesake and my profile picture and i love them so incredibly much for so many reasons but I do not want to overwhelm you with facts.
(other than that they're the most abundant organism in earth - there are ONE TRILLION!!!!!!!!!! PER GRAIN OF SAND ON EARTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO MANNNYYYYYY)
Also the types of bacteria on my hand is closer to the profile of bacteria on your hand than it is my to my gut. (thats not a phage phact though, just bacteria)
I love them so much and I think theyre so awesome and theyre hopefully what I will eventually study in a phd but im quite a way away from that as yet.
ok so why are people on here such huge bacteriophage fans? dont get me wrong i agree that they're cool and all but like. thats the thing from my lab why does tumblr know about it.
no but seriously i wanna know. hmu if you wanna talk phages
And a bacteriophage one, of course!
I hope all cells but cytotoxics have a wonderful night
Why are search engines genuinely useless?? I was trying to find out where bacteriophages were used as medicine in the 1920s (found it but still) and the first result was the Daily Mail homepage and the second was a baby article on what they are. I just want my damn information on phages 😭😭😭😭😭
i love bacteriophages. i am the no1 bacteriophage enthusiast you don’t understand…
if you were to take all of the passion and infatuation in the world, and multiplied it by 1000, you wouldn’t even come close to a fraction of how i feel about bacteriophages.
the discovery of bacteriophages was the best thing that ever happened to me. every day i thank Frederick Twort and Félix d'Hérelle for their incredible discovery, i look up to them and and i wish that i were the one who had made the astounding discovery of bacteriophages, they truly are my idols. i wish i were alive in 1915 to have known about them since the time they were found.
i want to spend my whole life dedicated to bacteriophages and bacteriophage research. i would happily be a test subject to trial phage therapy on.
my love for bacteriophages will forever prosper and there is no other virus in the world that will dethrone them.

Every book of Gravel's feels like a party, and this one celebrates microbes by showcasing facts about them and how fun they are to draw. My favorite illustration is the one about useful germs that live in our intestines, which features a toothy grin and a fart. I loved Gravel's enthusiasm for bacteriophages, prochlorococcus ("We're superheroes!"), hand washing, and cool Latin names. The book swept me along and made me want to draw.
If you've never heard Gravel's name, you may recognize her art from the USPS's Message Monsters postage stamps. https://www.painted-words.com/2020/11/elise-gravels-message-monsters-are-among-the-u-s-postal-services-new-stamps-for-2021/
