#bad stocking

Fish are not decorations...

You know you are truly deep into the fish nerd hobby when you can’t enjoy a family outing at a restaurant because their “fish tank” is housing African Cichlids, Parrot-fish, and some seriously confused, washed out looking tin-foil barbs(who can barely turn around in the narrow tank built into the wall).

I am assuming those were tin foils. They were large barbs but their colors were faded from being stressed. I don’t understand how a business can find this acceptable. Now I want to know. Who recommended this stocking? Where did the fish come from?

WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP MIXING AFRICAN SPECIES CICHLIDS WITH COMMUNITY OR NON AFRICAN SPECIES FISH? 

It’s worse when a business does it, because that then sets up a whole expectation that it supposedly works for so many people. When people see something appear to work, they assume it does. Later they may replicate it, or encourage it, or will be complacent in arguing against it.

When I get back home I”ll pull together some resources and send a polite message to whom ever, because it does no good just complaining about it on Tumblr.

Fishblr help please!

So there's a fish tank where I work and I'm not sure what kind of fish are in it but they don't seem to be doing well. I've never seen anyone clean or do a water change on the tank. It's covered in algae which Tbh is probably a good thing at this point, but I'm guessing the water quality can't be good. I want to come up with a plan and present it to my boss to see if he'll let me take over the tank, so first I'm gonna need some help IDing these fish. I'm going to research them myself once I know what they are, but if you have any suggestions on how to fix the stocking of this tank I would like to hear them! I'm pretty sure it's 10 gallons, there's a heater but no thermometer and the water feels cold to the touch so I don't know if the heater works. Here are some pictures:

There are two of the orange fish, two of the silver kind in the third picture, and one of everything else that can be seen in the pictures. Six fish altogether, and several small pest snails.

Tl;dr Please help me ID these fish so I can research them and do something to fix this tank, and if you have recommendations I'd like to hear them.

It always makes me nervous when people say they have goldfish

Me: Rambles on about fin rot.

Them: Hmm, that's really interesting. So that's why my goldfish get tears in their fins sometimes

Me: Every time someone says they have goldfish I have a mini panic-attack.

Them: lmao why?

Me: What size tank do you have?

Them: Well there's a three gallon with two small fish but idk what type they are and then a thirty gallon with the goldfish, zebra fish and sucker fish

Me: First off, a three gallon tank is too small for anything other than a single betta fish. By sucker fish I assume you mean plecostomus? Well one of those can get over a foot long, and the goldfish well fit way too big too and produce a lot of waste. You either need a way bigger tank or you need to rehome your fish. Two goldfish and a plecos are way too much for a thirty gallon.

Them: I don't have two goldfish

Me: Okay but still-

Them: I have six

Them: Mould it be better if I just moved the goldfish into an empty ten gallon?

Me: NO NO NO NO NO NOOOOO NO FISH FOR YOU. GET RID OF YOUR DAMN FISH. MY GOD PLEASE STOPPPP FRIEND WHYYYYY.
