"You'll Be Fine After" (Part 3)
A/n: I did it. Here’s part 3 lovelies I hope you guys like it and tell me what you think!!! :)
Blood was starting to pool around her as your mind went blank, taking in the red liquid that looked ever so bright in the eerie night. It was quick, without warning, abrupt and seemed to be an impulse of a decision as you saw from the corner of your eye, a man lurking behind the wall of the alley, staring right at you.
She was just a girl. Probably around your age. And now she was dead. You didn’t have time to register anything else as you felt yourself being pulled away from the scene just a few feet away from you.
“Hey baby, stay with me yeah?” Luke murmured, skillfully dragging you away from the nightmare you just witnessed and towards his car as another gunshot was heard. “Shit.” He opened the passenger door and you slid in, still shocked at what happened mere moments before.
Luke got in on the other side and drove off, checking the rear view mirror constantly like a lion on the prowl.
You finally snapped out of your minor shock as you remembered Bella was still back at the club. “Wait Luke! Bella is still there we have to turn back!” You were panicking at this point, undoing your seatbelt as you turned towards Luke with pleading eyes.
“Hey hey okay. It’s okay babe she’s going to be fine. But we can’t go back.” He took his eyes off the road momentarily to look at you. You scoffed in return, you weren’t going to just leave her there.
“Luke.” The sternness in your voice made him sigh. “They were after me okay. And we’re not going back because I am not putting you remotely anywhere near danger. End of discussion.”
Your mouth dropped open at his statement. “Put your seatbelt on.” He mumbled, eyes still darting back and forth in case someone was following him. He was stressed. Worried. But there was something else in his sky eyes and the way he was gripping the steering wheel, knuckles white that made you feel sick to your stomach.
And if he was scared, there must be something very very wrong with this picture because throughout your relationship, you’ve never once seen fear in this man’s eyes. He was pretty good at keeping an emotionless face when needed, which pissed you off when you got into arguments with him but that’s not the point. The point is that if Luke was scared, something wasn’t right.
You silently obeyed him, knowing he wasn’t going to turn the car around despite your pleas. You texted Bel to make sure she got out safe and thankfully she was with your friends and was headed home. You sighed in relief that she was safe. But were you? Was Luke?
The rest of the ride home was sat in silence as you looked out the window, taking in the crimson, menacing night as you thought back to the girl who got shot mere millimetres beside you in the alleyway.
Your hands started to shake again as you replayed the scene over and over like a vinyl spinning on a record player. That could have been you. It could have been Luke. He was blocking your view when it happened but you couldn’t miss the way the girl’s body fell limp onto the cement floor.
Luke looked over at you, gauging your face for any sign of tears. He was a man who held control in his hands. Everything and everyone around him could be in the palm of his hand when and if he wanted. But the one thing he didn’t know how to control was your emotions. He grabbed your hand and interlaced your fingers together, gently rubbing his thumb over the back of your hand, knowing it would calm you down and slow your heart from racing like a nascar on a track.
“She’s fine.” You said, avoiding his gaze as you fixated yours back onto the city outside.
“I’m glad.” He replied, squeezing your hand a little, reminding you that he wasn’t the bad guy. He was only trying to protect you. And you knew that, of course.
The car pulled up to Luke’s apartment and you couldn’t deny the nostalgic feelings that surfaced within you. You missed this place. You missed him.
Luke came over to your side and helped you out as you stumbled a little, still intoxicated and still wearing your damn 5 inch heels. He smirked at your state, lifting you up and carrying you inside.
You wrapped your arms around his neck, shutting your eyes at the warmth. “Let’s just go to sleep yeah?” You whispered against his neck. You felt him nod as he placed a kiss to your head and made his way down the hallway, to his front door.
You didn’t remember him changing you out of your dress and into his clothes while placing you in his bed, as sleep slowly starting to creep its way through, hitting you all at once like the effects of the alcohol you consumed earlier tonight.
“Good night beautiful.” Luke whispered, situating himself behind you as he pulled you close, lips brushing the back of your neck before he gradually fell into slumber as well.
You woke up that morning surprisingly with a minor headache and no urge to vomit at all. You rubbed your eyes as you took in your surroundings. Luke’s room was messy to say the least but the cologne he always put on still lingered in the air making you smile.
Turning to your side, you noticed the vacant spot next to you and sighed, getting up and slowly making your way out to find Luke.
Huddled over the stove, there stood your boyfriend in what looked like his attempt at making pancakes. “Luke.” You said, wrapping your arms around his bare torso, tattoos of every and any thing littering his back as you planted a soft kiss to the skin between his shoulder blades, sleep still evident in your voice.
“Sleep well?” He said as he spun around and picked you up, placing you onto the counter beside the stove with a quick peck to your lips. You nodded your head and brought him back, reconnecting your lips together, this time in a more slower, sensual manner as you flicked your tongue against his lip ring making him groan.
You pulled back, a smirk on your face as he leaned his forehead against yours. “I didn’t think I would miss you this much, you know?” He mumbled, hands gripping your thighs as you ran your fingers through his bed head.
“I love you.” You whispered, giving him an Eskimo kiss as your noses brushed against each other’s. He smiled at you before kissing your jaw and moving back to the pancakes that were almost forgotten.
“Let’s eat up yeah?” He finished making the last one as you got up and retrieved the plates as if you were living here all along. In all honestly, it wasn’t really a breakup more so a break to get your thoughts sorted out. Relationships are hard. Whoever said they aren’t is a liar, and although it was difficult not being with Luke for all those days, you’re glad it happened. It just proved the saying ‘you don’t know what you have until you lost it.’ Things were feeling normal between the two of you.
But your mind wandered back to the incident the night before. The gruesome image of someone getting shot right before your very eyes disturbed your thoughts like a plague, sleep being the only escape away from them. You’ve heard of this stuff happening in the news and all but never did you think you would actually see it happen in real life.
Luke noticed you blanking out and mentally prepared himself for the talk that was going to happen. He knew you weren’t going to let this go. But he also wanted to tell you. For your own safety.
“They’re called the Rascals. I know, original right?” He let out a small chuckle as you both sat down with your food, your attention solely on him now. “They’re dangerous baby. And I don’t want you anywhere near this.” He looked down, almost ashamed at the fact he was telling you all this.
“I know I’m caught up in some stuff right now,” you rolled your eyes at that, both of you knowing very well that’s what caused you to leave in the first place, “but considering we haven’t paid them back yet, they’re after everyone.” He looked up at you as he continued. “Cal, Ash, Mike, Jay, me.” Your heart sank at the mention of everyone. They were all like brothers to you except Luke, he was the damn love of your life.
“We still need to gather the money up but they’re using whatever leverage they can find to get back at us. Whatever weakness of ours they can get their sick hands on. Which includes family.” He whispered the last part, you were like his family, his home. He didn’t have anyone else besides the boys and you and that meant that they could come after you.
You inhaled a sharp intake of breath at Luke’s words. Things were supposed to get better, not worse.
You didn’t notice Luke get up and make his way around the table, dragging a chair and sitting right beside you, turning you around.
“I’m not going to let anything happen to you okay? That’s a fucking promise.” The determination in his voice made you feel a bit more safe, but knowing someone was out there gunning for you made you want to hurl.
“Okay.” You said at last, smiling slightly at the blonde in front of you. “I trust you.”
After you left Luke’s apartment, with a long speech of ‘text me as soon as you get home’ and ‘here take this pepper spray with you just in case’ you couldn’t shake the feeling that you were being watched. Maybe you were being paranoid but better safe than sorry right? You were at the grocery store, scrounging for whatever you could eat at this point just wanting to get the hell out of there and to the safety of your home.
You put your sunglasses on as you got out, shielding you not only from the rays of the sun but from everyone around you who looked remotely suspicious or creepy.
As you were walking back to your apartment, you felt a push, knocking your bags out of your hands and falling face first into the hard, rocky cement. A bone crunched making you wince at the sharp pain that pierced through your arm.
“Well well well,” he spoke, “looks like we got the leading man’s lady huh.”
