Eyeliner At Night, Hollywood 1990

Candles, pentagram charms, Cleopatra eyeliner. Joanne Sharp looks like the kind of gal who would spot you a clove cigarette and then read your palm. In other words- perfect. "I was a 19 year-old in Hollywood with a really good fake ID going to Helter Skelter every Wednesday. Sometimes Sinamatic in Saturday and Kontrol Factory on Sunday, too. It's a wonder I ever made it to work. Good thing I started at 10:00am! I dressed pretty much Goth all the time, but only did the full eyeliner at night. My friends and I would do photo shoots in my (super-Goth!) apartment before we went out. I was into Sisters of Mercy, Ministry, Bauhaus, Virgin Prunes...all still on my iPod! Now I'm undercover as a super-respectable employee of CSU Summer Arts. In my mind I'm still dangerous to know, but in reality my husband and I have friends over for dinner & cheese & board games. "The year was 1993 and I was too much of an optimist to really be Goth. That didn’t stop me from listening to Bela Lugosi’s Dead on repeat and pretending to be dark and angsty. This photo was taken by my best friend, Risa Hollingsworth on the grounds of the MCnay Art Museum in San Antonio, Texas. All the bad kids would gather there late on Friday nights and make bad decisions together.
