Snippet from Ch 4 (Promise Me, Little Brother)

Peeta Mellark thinking about his mom: 

 I was her least favorite. Not that there was much love or affection between her and the three of us in the first place, but I had been the last hope for her to have a daughter. And I came out a boy. Hope shattered the day I was born and a lifetime of resentment and anger grew up in its place. Add to that the unfair theft and murder of her middle child and it was the perfect cocktail for misery. 

So when I heard her heavy step on the stare, and saw the flash of apology in Rye’s eye, I knew before she even said anything what was going to happen. 

“Been up half the night crying and blubbering like a sissy again? How useless you are! The Capitol chose the wrong son to go to the Games. They should have taken you and relieved me of the burden of having to raise a worthless waste of space!” She throws out the words viciously, and Rye averts his gaze. My father clears his throat quietly. 

“It's going to be a long day, let’s try to get along.” He says in a small voice...

Sometimes I’m just scrolling thru tumblr and my toddler grabs my phone and starts yelling “Tessa, Tessa, more Tessa!!!” and demands to look at pictures of Tessa. 😳 (she has no idea what Scott’s name is.)
