//aaaack I have this idea and it won’t leave me alone...

I’ve mentioned this at least once but the six Infinity stones are all elements the Doctor has. So what if Malekith - any form of Malekith but especially Elf and/or Tennant had joined up with the Avengers during Endgame? What if he too was fighting for one he lost and through the course of this journey--however difficult it might be--he began to rediscover himself, his old self? What if instead of Tony at the end it’s Malekith that swipes the stones from Thanos and sets the world right? 

Whichever version it is I know there’s temptation to use this power selfishly; moreso for Tennant. For Elf!Malekith...I think he might consider undoing all the damage and resetting the clock to before Gallifrey devolved into Svartalfheim. However, remembering Rose (because it’s probably Rose) and the life he’s since gained he admits to himself he was finally happy--happy for the first time in his long life and doesn’t want to lose that. 

And as far as the Elf!Malekith goes...what if this is what finally leads to regeneration? What if this is what restores his former face and gives this universe an ally it lost so long ago?

Tennant...well, he’d likely want his old face and life as Malekith the Accursed back...but if he’s fighting he’s doing it either because his daughter (Emily) convinced him/was going to go alone or he lost her...and he doesn’t want to lose that either. Besides, what kind of father would he be to ruin her future?

For Tennant, I really think he might die, willingly die but do so more certain of himself than he’s been in ages. (Maybe he would have a chance to regenerate; I’m not totally sure how damaged a Time Lord has to be before it’s too late. I’m also not sure if he’d want to keep fighting through life like he has. I think it’s far more possible dying this way might bring him peace at last. That and his body isn’t as durable as it was as an Elf (though again still stronger than a regular Time Lord’s.) He really might suffer damage beyond repair. 

Either way, both versions of Malekith would look Thanos square in the eye, call himself the Doctor and snap his fingers.

A surprise home

Claire hated to say it but she had gotten used to this normal and slow life. Well, as normal as working for Torchwood was ever going to be. She lived with various co-workers through the last year after she got kicked out of the flat when she hadn’t realized rent was a thing that needed to be paid. 

Bent over her desk she had been filing a report when the hiss of the vault door opening had everyone’s head turning. Everyone was here and accounted for so who could it have been? At the sight of dirty blonde hair she felt her mouth fall open into a small ‘o’. 

“Rose?”

The air around him rang like broken chimes, filled with the excited chaos of the audience filling the stands. One side chanted his name - or the name given to him here - while the other vouched for his opponent. Cold Blood, they called him and it was true enough. Insulting for one who once ruled the Nine Realms, but true. 

Malekith leaped back, a ragged breath tearing from his mouth. He squared his stance, dual knives glinting in the harsh Sakaar sun. He didn’t look as they’d remember--if anyone did and Malekith highly doubted it. So old were his people they’d become the stuff of Asgardian legend. Older still was he. So old he still possessed remnants from the Life before, before his poisoned hand rewrote the Universe. Gone was his ashen face, pointed ears and luminescent eyes. Gone was the braid, the towering height and haunting echo in his voice. Malekith the Accursed Dark Elf, the Sovereign of Svartalfheim died beneath the remnants of his ship, born anew in a blinding, agonizing light. Born of old; that first haunting glimpse of his reflection forever burned into his mind’s eye. The Dark Elf had died, it was true, a Time Lord standing in his place. 

Oh, but that Time Lord wore the name in face alone: his dual hearts sang in his ears, dark eyes flashing dangerously--waiting, taunting, goading his doddleheaded foe to charge again. And charge the fool did. With a roar that reverbrating through the stadium the hulking creature--a creature of lopsided physique with spines running up and down its arms--barreled towards him. A deadly smirk twisted Malekith’s face and he spun on his heel, jamming the right dagger into his enemy’s back. 

The alien beast yelped, jerking in surprise but Malekith didn’t budge. Rather he let the momentum carry him and when close enough thrust his left weapon up beneath the other’s ribcage.  He wasn’t finished yet, oh no: while shorter and slimmer he hadn’t lost strength and called upon it now, dragging the knife in a long, crescent cut, black blood spilling like a fountain behind it. The creature jerked again, no doubt startled by this sudden turn of events.  It tried to reach around, grab the shorter man (Elf), pull him off and save itself but Malekith held firm.

“Die, you insipid welp,” hissed the (former) Dark Elf in his ancient tongue. He let his weapons go and dropped. With a swift and  sweeping kick he took his opponent’s legs out and when the beast fell it did not get up. For one long second silence reigned...then the crowd erupted in a chorus of jeers and applause. Malekith pulled his knives from the corpse and the blood already staining his hands and arms splattered across his face. He let it be, standing once again. His eyes met those of the Grand Master who both appeared in awe and greatly unsettled. Good, thought Malekith and then--and then his eyes wandered, wandered because he heard--or rather felt--something he could only describe as a shift. Like the Convergence, he thought but different. Smaller and contained as though not by an extraterrestrial force but rather...

Something very old lit up like wildfire inside his head. No, he thought. Such technology did not exist here. He’d seen to that...but the acrid memory prevailed and when a flurry of blond hair caught his peripheral Malekith froze. No. Technology evolved differently. To travel the stars without means of a ship should not be possible...was not possible but there she was and suddenly Malekith’s hearts stuttered to a staggering halt. The world tipped into a dizzying spiral and the weapons fell from his hands. No!

//I’ve only seen Malekith, in any verse, genuinely happy with three different people. I say genuinely because the peace and love he feels kind of silences the negative storm inside his head. Tennant!Mal is excused from this list because he’s a little more…unstable complicated.

So I love this Rose. A lot. I love all the Roses I write with, but this one…she’s older, tragic and makes for a fantastic (no pun intended) match against Malekith’s own ancient regrets. I love their story, I love the bond they share and the challenge and redemption Malekith has gone through at her side. She’s helped him grow into the best person I personally believe he can be and I just love that, I do.

Rose herself though, I LOVE her story. Stories, rather–the history she has in Malekith’s universe and her blog canon. It’s so tragic but somehow still fits and it’s really fascinating because…I don’t know. She’s very much the Badwolf and Rose Tyler at the same time, so well-balanced I just love it. I love it and her and Malekith does too.

Plus the mun is just super nice. Very patient and understanding and a sweetheart :) I admire her muchly…and was so excited when she came back!

If you guys aren’t following her, you should be! She’s one of two long-standing partners and storylines I’ve written with (the other being the lovely @canspotatimeagent) and I’ve loved every minute of it <3

A soft contented sound drifted from the Accursed’s mouth–although that word, of late, seemed lacking in appropriation. He had been cursed, condemned and warped by Darkness…(let your whole race expire what, three times, now?)

Twice. There’d been survivors the second time around–anyway, that was hardly the point. He’d done a lot of terrible things, Malekith knew. Things that would follow him until his dying day. But he also, he’d realized just a little while ago, found a path back towards the light. Towards forgiveness. And she sang to him, right now, in a hushed murmur as she feathered through his long hair. 

“I missed your voice.” Said the Dark Elf. One eye peeped open, fondness swimming through its eerie coloring. He’d nestled into her side for the time, one hand tangled lazily with her free one. It was a strange action, for one so used to an arm’s length in distance, but that, too, had begun to change: each day passed easing him into this life. Affirming this maddening, wonderful idea he could share a life with Rose Tyler-Noble. That he’d spent enough time in self-punishment’s vice.

That he deserved this second chance.

She's gold and pink and yellow. And she steps over the smoldering Dalek like she owns the place. Her eyes still glimmering with Time. Her hair is longer, curls cascade down her back, but she hasn't aged a day. And she never will again. "I told you not t'come back, didn't I?" she asks the suffering alien. He’s brown and blue and dumbfounded. 

He picks himself up from the floor, staring at her through brainy specs with one fractured lens. 

His suit, pinstriped and TARDIS-hued, is tattered and singed from the explosion, his tie frayed and stringy. 

His sonic sits forgotten in his hand.

All he sees is her.

And, in response to her question about whether it computes, even though the question was to that sputtering Dalek…

…he takes off his glasses, and shakes his head, and murmurs…

“You know? It really doesn’t.”
