Fin avril, je suis allé retrouver à Christine dans le Languedoc, à Narbonne, pour son prix de poésie.

Ce jour-là, une très belle balade dans le Parc Régional de la Narbonnaise-en-Méditerranée.

Nous voici maintenant à Bages.

Le petit bâtiment sur la dernière photo est un (une ?) "monjoie" qui protège un regard sur un canal souterrain d'irrigation.

De Salses a Guardamar i de Fraga a l’Alguer: les comarques de parla catalana una a una. 24/87: el Bages (Central Catalonia).

Bages a shire located right at the center of Catalonia. Its capital city is Manresa.

Some of the most well known places of this shire include the salt mines of Cardona, which has been exploited since the Neolithic until the 1990s. Another important economical factor were the company-towns that produced textiles with the water’s force and were located along the Llobregat and Cardener rivers. Another relevant place is the Sant Benet de Bages, a Medieval monastery built in the 10th century.

Its capital city Manresa is also famous to Catholics because Saint Ignatius of Loyola stopped here to pray in his way to Montserrat. He lived in a cave in Manresa for a year, and this cave has become a pilgrimage point.

Bages is also important in the modern history of the Catalan people, because the Cardona castle was the last place where the Catalans resisted the Spanish-Bourbonic invasion in the War of Spanish Succession. Even after the fall of Barcelona (Catalonia’s capital city) on September 11th 1714, Cardona resisted completely alone for a week more until the defeat was absolute. In the city hall, a candle is always lit symbolizing the eternal remembrance of those who fought for the freedom of Catalonia.
