Moving across the country

6 months have passed since I moved from Quebec to British Columbia, Canada, and boy is there a lot of small details and differences between those 2 places. I've also learned a lot about myself. So in retrospective, here's what I've learned for those who are curious about moving here. Those are points I've never heard someone mentioning before.

It doesn't rain as much. People love to complain it rains all the time in Vancouver, even calling this place Raincouver. But in reality, the days are pretty much cloudy. Even when it rains, it might not rain the entire day. It might just rain in the morning, or after the Sun sets down. It rains pretty much every week, for sure, but not everyday.

Burnaby is the actual let down of the metropolitan area. Subjective point. Except for Brentwood/Metrotown which are essentially shopping malls and Deer Lake/burnaby Lake, this city is just houses. There's no downtown, no core area. You go there for shopping or walk in a park, that's it. The charm is just not there.

Milk is expensive and people are stupid to think they're superior for not using bagged milk like in the east. The most expensive milk I used to see in the grocery store back in Quebec is the cheapest I can find here in Vancouver. Hello?? Everytime I saw any mention of bagged milk in a tiktok, the western part of Canada would flood the comment section and say *oh no, we're not stupid like Ontario, we use cardbox milk like everyone else* like damn, in this economy? I used to pay around 8$ for 4L. Now it's 6$ minimum for 2L.

The sidewalks in Vancouver are treacherous. I've learned in a video that some areas have very soft soil, but it should also be common knowledge that a tree's roots will move and grow which then displace the sidewalk. Nevertheless, I already lost count how many time I've nearly tripped from a sudden elevation in a line of a sidewalk. You really have to watch where you walk here. It's not as frequent in places like Coquitlam, but proper Vancouver will catch you off guard easily.

The café shops looks feel bland This is a very subjective opinion, but having been to quite a lot of cafés in Quebec city, Montréal, Toronto and Seattle, Vancouver's cafés lack personality in general. There's a few good places here and there that looks unique, but most places feel like it's just there to serve coffee and not create an environment. After going to maybe a dozen cafés here, I felt like some of them just looked the same. It's very white. As for the coffee bean and the quality of your coffee, it really depends more of the barista than the coffee itself. They all source their beans from around the world, but you gotta learn who doesn't burn the milk and if they use the good specialty for a latté. On the other hand, people take their matcha seriously here so if you're a matcha lover, you would love Vancouver.
