ok, but what if Istari were like the Jedi?
fantasy equivalent lightsabers instead of staves
similar philosophy and politics
hell make it a crossover and pack your favorite Jedi off to ME as downsized maiar on a lookout for a Sith Dark Lord Sauron.
like, they are wizards, but they’re still themselves. you think Qui-Gon would be the one to manipulate innocent hobbits into burglary?
I know it's a popular headcanon, but I love the idea of Bilbo NEEDING several meals a day and not saying anything about it on the journey so he's silently starving whilst the company is mildly confused and concerned but he doesn't say anything ;-;
Well that’s basically what would realistically happen, isn’t it? He’d drop a lot of weight during the quest - and sadly not from exercise alone. Poor dear would be probably feeling really weak and dizzy most of the time, and that makes his actions in Goblin Town and after even more amazing. And while before Mirkwood there isn’t really time for concern - he recovers in Rivendell and at Beorn’s - and before that the relationship with the Company is not that close, imagine how utterly exhausted he is in the Woodland Realm, running around the halls, searching for the others and a way out while trying to keep quiet, the ring draining even more of his energy, being able to eat just a few morsels every day. Imagine how heartwrenching would be for Thorin to see him so wasted away when he finally finds him after days (or weeks?) of desperate searching. The dwarves offered Bilbo their food, but he often declines or takes just a few bites (they must keep strong and healthy for punching the elves in the face, he jokes), and Thorin has to practically order him to eat his ration at least once in a while.
(And imagine how worried Thorin would be after the barrel escape, when Bilbo is nowhere to be see, he couldn’t swim and he was so weak. He saved them but at what cost?)
Modern!Bagginshield with Cowboy!Thorin and Grade School Teacher!Bilbo where Bilbo takes his class to Thorin's ranch on a field trip (yay horses!) but Bilbo dreads the trip every year because Thorin is a complete a-hole and Thorin secretly looks forward to it because he's fallen for the quiet man in the ugly jumpers. It's too bad they only get to meet once a year. Bonus for Fili and Kili in Bilbo's class and a meddling Dis using the boys to get her hard headed brother and shy teacher together.
Ok, so I have this modern AU in my mind since The first Hobbit.. Bilbo works in an office and Thorin owns the cafe at the entrance of the same building. Bilbo arrives at work every morning at 8:00 and he visits the cafe to be welcomed by a steaming cup of coffee and a cheery ''Good Morning, Mr Baggins'' behind the bar. (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
Bagginshield Alternate Ending
Well I just saw a post where it says the alternate ending of Bofta is where Bilbo dies because Thorin threw him off the bridge. Can I just add something.
Like After Bilbo fell and has damage some of his bones he still got up and defend Thorin till the end and before he left for good all the dwarves gathered around him. Gandalf beside him with Thorin and he made Gandalf to promise him that he would take care of his nephew (Frodo) and after that Bilbo died and the acorn fell from his pocket.
Then Thorin picked it up and plant it somewhere in erebor for his burglar and instead of taking the arkenstone, Thorin put it on Bilbo's hand in his tomb because the heart of the mountain, the heart of Thorin Oakenshield will forever be in Bilbo Baggins hand.
Just saying.
