Rewatched Phantom Menace after the con on Saturday, which has me rolling around in my Qui-Gon feelings. I've always really disliked the popular fan/Dave Filoni theory that this fight "determines" Anakin's future, and that if Qui-Gon had lived, Anakin wouldn't have fallen. I personally think Qui-Gon would make a better attentive grandmaster to Anakin than a master for a lot of reasons, but I won't get into that here. First, while there are certainly big tugs of fate in Star Wars, there's also a huge emphasis on choices, particularly Anakin's, and how they impact OTHER people's fates. Qui-Gon dying here doesn't damn Anakin to anything--there were a lot of choices on that road to Vader. I think calling it "Duel of the Fates" has a lot more to do with the fact that they're fighting over the fate of the galaxy, the Jedi, and all the rest. The outcome of this fight has domino effects. Between the fight on Naboo and Maul's fate (forever a Maul should have stayed dead truther, but I digress) Palpatine is slowed down in his efforts. And you can tell how pissed off he is by that in the final scene.
Anyway, what I was thinking about on this rewatch was the final interaction between Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan.
For a long time as a prequels fan, I used to be upset that that Qui-Gon was talking about Anakin in his final moments with Obi-Wan (probably because I was 11 when TPM came out), but as my mind changed on the character and he slowly became one of my favorites, it became so clear to me that Qui-Gon was entrusting Obi-Wan with what he felt was the fate of not just the Jedi, but the light itself. It was imperative, in those last moments, for him to tell the person he knew he could count on--his padawan. Qui-Gon doesn't express his fear easily, but in that moment, he shows a huge amount of vulnerability and trusts his now-adult student with the raw truth of it. I think all the time about Qui-Gon caressing Obi-Wan's cheek. He wants to comfort him even as he's asking something major of him. He probably is saying, with that small gesture, I'm sorry and it's not your fault, though of course Obi-Wan will continue to blame himself. This vow Obi-Wan makes, of course, changes his life. He gives up whatever he thought he would do and whoever he thought he would be as a young knight and becomes a teacher himself. Qui-Gon's defiance, I sense in you, Yoda says. Need that, you do not. But you see his lost master in him in that moment. Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon are very different, but they learned from each other and loved each other very much. And people can critique how Obi-Wan trained Anakin if they want, but you can never, ever say that Obi-Wan didn't give his entire life to his padawan-brother-son, all the way down to literally dying to save Anakin's children so they could save the galaxy and maybe, just maybe, give Anakin one more chance to bring balance.
Anyhow, picture me rolling around on the floor wondering how Obi-Wan got Qui-Gon's body out. Did he comm someone? Did he have to wait for someone to find him? How long did he sit there with Qui-Gon's corpse? Did he think about how he wouldn't have master there to cut his braid? *screeches*

I thought of a oneshot or short fic idea where Shadow and Silver take care of Espio and Rouge as their sick. And basically would be like a sick fic with shenanigans from Espio and Rouge. Cause they’re stubborn as hell.
And the main mental image of the idea. Was Silver and Shadow standing there at the foot of the bed asking how they’re feeling. And if they need anything.
With Espio and Rouge just sitting there with the facial expression of: >:(
So like yeah-
