I'm a professional Jedi appreciator, I love to whump Obi-Wan, and Quinlan Vos is my much beloved guy. Bail, Padme, Anakin, and the twins + Dooku, Sifo-Dyas, Qui-Gon, Tholme, and Aayla are some of my other SW faves! But there are many.

Original Writing

I have a historical pirates series called The Constellation Trilogy, and all three installments (Sailing by Orion's Star, Sailing by Carina's Star, and Sailing by Gemini's Star) are out now! I'm working on turning my Blood Makes Noise fic into a novel, so more to come on that as it happens!

My birthday (June 6th, tomorrow) is always a weird mixed bag for me because my mom died the day before back when I was a teenager (three months after I lost my dad). Which! Is even tougher because I always really loved my birthday and still want to. My mom used to throw me these incredible parties that I still think about. How I feel just varies wildly from year to year. My mom's been gone for longer than I even had her by now, but one thing I've been thinking about a lot of late is how much she wanted me and how that really formed the basis of our relationship. My parents were married for eight years before I was born, the miracle after years of miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies. Even when we argued like any parent and child do, I knew that she (and my dad) loved me. Most of all, they wanted me to be happy. So, when I think to myself, would she approve of my life? I have to think yes. Sure, she was Catholic (though, I wonder often if she would be one anymore. A lot of my worst catholic trauma actually happened AFTER she died) but she was also a therapist and social worker who saw and helped all kinds of people in her career. She gave free therapy to single moms whose families had kicked them out (via some very cool nuns I used to hang out with when I was little).

My mom comes from a ... let's just say her side of the family isssss ... it's a mess. It makes sense she wanted to be a therapist, quite frankly. And I think what she wanted most in the world was for me to get my own life at a distance from them. And while I have a relationship with some of them, the boundaries, after all the hell, have been set by me. And I do have that life I think she wanted me to find. And that helps with the grief I'll always have, you know? Not to get SO SUPER PERSONAL on main lmao, but I'm just thinking about her in a new way today, even all these years on. She was the best fucking mom, and I think that's why I was able to get through losing her at all. So, thinking of her today <3

I really do think it's wild that IWTV/The Vampire Lestat (show version) has really set itself up as a story about memory and the stories we tell ourselves ABOUT ourselves, and yet half the fandom discourse is about how one traumatized, murderous, wild vampire is worse than the other traumatized, murderous, wild vampires. They way they set it up to show different versions of the same event is SO DEEPLY COOL from a creative standpoint, and it's clear when the TRUTH comes through if they repeat a scene (I'm thinking especially about Claudia's turning and Lestat saving Louis' life in season 2). It's just like, I dunno, stop moralizing this show about vampires who have alllll done terrible stuff, often TO each other! We see their pain and their humanity beneath all of that. That's why it's compelling television.

One thing about me as a whump writer/reader is that if a character says the phrase "my little *insert various descriptors*" to the character undergoing the whump? I'm listening. I'm already sitting down. There's some switch inside me that flips when I hear that.
