pFriem IPA

A quick stop to Bailey’s Taproom while waiting for Anne to finish at Måurice, reintroduces me to one of my favorite IPAs.

The color is rich gold of medium-plus concentration with medium-plus effervescent strength and thin sticky head. The nose is Bergamot oil, violet, orange rind, grapefruit pith, strawberry, a hint of framboise liqueur and a suspicion of honey on Melba toast. The palate’s fresh and dry with floral-pithy bitterness and a long grapefruit peel finish; the abv is 7.2%. This IPA is unique insofar as the fine, medium-plus effervescence provides focus, but there’s still a roundness, too. Moreover, pFriem IPA’s bitterness is on the brink of being aggressive, but never goes buck wild. A little restraint always goes a long way with me in an IPA.
