On top of touring with Vampire Weekend, Baio and his wife had just relocated to London. He found himself inspired by his new surroundings, and as a result, themes of belonging and identity emerged. This is especially true of the track “Endless Rhythm” which Baio calls “a song about it self.” Inspiration for the track came one afternoon at the Tate Modern where Baio found himself transfixed by the Robert Delaunay painting by the same name. “I loved the color, loved the design, loved the curves of it,” he said. Baio spent 10 minutes staring at it before realizing it was called Endless Rhythm. “A musical title to a painting,” he explained. “It immediately connected with me.”

Since emerging onto the scene in NYC in 2006, Chris Baio has best been known as the bass player of the Grammy award-winning Vampire Weekend. It’s a ride that’s taken him around the world. At some point along the way, in between packing venues and selling millions of records, Baio begin to sense a restlessness inside himself. That restlessness, he found, was the desire to explore as an artist outside of the band.

That’s exactly what Baio has been up to. Exploring. His most recent solo release The Names was created during what he calls a transient time in his life.
