Wet Tuna freaks unite! Thanks to Jesse DeRosa (Baked Tapes), Jeff Conklin (Avant Ghetto), Pat Gubler (P.G. Six) and Matt Valentine (MV & EE) for getting me this tape (recorded by Jesse) to share with y’all. 2017 was a lot of things, but one good thing about it was the emergence of Gubler and Valentine’s Wet Tuna, who have been jamming in various configurations since January, with generally phenomenal results. Their sound is a gloriously messy sprawl, landing somewhere in the zone between east and west coast psych -- transcendent trippiness blending with dark NYC scuzz (with some Krautrocky undercurrents as well). The Dead meet Suicide? (Typing that out makes it look pretty dark, but trust me, this is life-affirming stuff.) The Ceremony set kicks off with a deep fried “I Know You Rider,” tumbles into an intense “New York Street,” and closes things out with “Water Train > Space/Drums.” A totally righteous way to spend an hour. Wet Tuna have a proper debut coming out in early 2018, so stay tuned for that one ...
