Hi! Happy New Year! maybe a month ago I asked for your thoughts on how the Casca plot was handled. I remember you saying that the sequel could be written off as fanfic which piqued my interest. I gave it a reread with the new chapters and I can see where the frustration lies. These characters don’t talk… and the art isn’t even arting. And the whole Kushan taking them refugees makes no sense. It seems like they dropped all secondary plots and are rushing everything.
I also remember you mentioning that despite everything it isn’t hard to see where Miura was heading with the ending .. could you elaborate on that. What is Miura’s intended ending? cuz after the reread I couldn’t really tell where we were heading. I need some closure and your analyses are always on point 🖤🖤 Thanks!
Hi Anon, sorry for the delay ! Happy new year to you too. :) Thank you for the kind words ! <3
About Miura's intended ending, he said he was convinced to give Berserk a happy ending because he couldn't “let such a long grim story end with a grim ending".
That's why, in my opinion, 1) Femto would have been defeated by Guts and/or Casca, and maybe the rest of the Godhands by the Skull King amongst others. This was hinted by the fact that, when Gaiseric became the Skull King, the members of the Godhand were different, except for Void, meaning they can be killed.
At the very end, I also imagine that 2) the moonlight child would have been saved, even if he was Femto's vessel, finally allowing Guts and Casca to find happiness after everything they went through.
To reach this part of the narrative, I think that 3) it was made clear that Casca was to become a leader again, of the few remaining Band of the Falcon members (like Rickert & Guts). She was also probably going to lead the united front between the few resisting humans and magical creatures against Femto's human & apostles army.
4) This united front would have been possible thanks to Roderick convincing his country, but also Farnese and Magnifico convincing their very powerful father to invest on their side of the war. In fact, I believe it is the narrative reason why Magnifico joined the group in the first place.
If he were to back up his sister's strength (since their father fears her so much), together they would have been able to convince him, I'm sure of it.
5) Of course, the Bakiraka would have joined this front, led by Silat.
I also firmly believe that 6) we would have had some traitors on Femto's side, like Zodd maybe, and even Charlotte. I know a lot of fans don't like her, or don't think she has it in her, but she impressed Casca, she's Gaiseric's estranged descendant and she's the real sovereign of Midland.
That's why I think she would have confronted Griffith upon learning what he had done to the Band of the Falcon who so courageously went to save him.
Lastly, I don't know exactly how, but I firmly believe that 7) Puck would have had a very important role to play by the end of the series. Maybe by activating the Beherit (that he says is his), maybe by saving Guts, since Guts has a deep link to the elves since always and a deep link to Puck since the Blackswordsman days.
Anyway, I'm team Puck is the MVP of the series.
Basically, these were the hints I collected throughout the story, that meant (in my opinion) that Femto's side would have been ultimately defeated. The "how" and "when" were left to be detailed by Miura-sensei, but the end always seemed to be in that direction.
Because there is no depth that love cannot pull you from. That's always been what Berserk is about.
I hope it answers your question, have a good day Anon !
