Bakkin obviously is the og Stussy (Bakkin = Bucking in Buckingham), so who knows how many clones there are of pirates from the previous generations. Also, it makes sense that Bakkin was in the Rocks Pirates because she claimed she was on the same crew as Whitebeard 40 years ago, and the God Valley incident was 38 years ago

When Bakkin tells Weevil she forgives him ‘because she loves him,’ the way she does so is... weird. It’s all in katakana, literally spelling out what she’s saying in English- ビコーズアイラビュー/bikōzu ai rabyuu! (‘Because I love you!’)

It strikes me as very theatrical and false, compared to all the other, more sincere declarations of parental/familial love using words like daisuki and aishiteru we see throughout the series from people like Bellemere, Corazon, and Whitebeard himself- the contrast with the latter seems particularly noteworthy in this case.

While they never were lovers like she claims, Bakkin and Newgate do have a bit of a history. He first met her on the first pirate crew he joined. Their relationship was always rocky, and they often argued. Their relation was similar to that of Nami and Zoro only Bakkin was more manipulative and selfish. As a result this were more toxic between them.

First of all this dude activated my fight or flight instinct on sight. I hate him already.

Second of all, Weevil addresses his mother as 母ーたん/kaa-tan, which is an exceedingly childish way of saying ‘Mom.’ This is cause -tan as an honorific is pretty much exclusively associated with small kids, as a childish mispronunciation of the already-cutesy -chan.

Seeing a grown man use it is weird, to say the least.

      Edward Weevil’s mother, Bakkin claims she was the lover of Whitebeard, thus making Weevil his son, thus making him rightful heir to Whitebeard’s belongings. Whether or not she is telling the truth or simply wants his fortune is unknown. However it does appear she’s extremely manipulative, and Weevil would not have this motive if not influenced by her. Being his mother, she may have abilities, but that is also unknown.
