And the award for the SECOND monster of Iceborne that has kicked my ass goes to...
Raging Brachydios!
Between this walking explosion and Angry Monke I picked the Furious Rajang to “Get the hard one out of the way”.
I tested my new Anti-Explosion gear on regular Brachydios (it made the fight extremely easy), equipped partbreaker and some ice attack boosters and...
Got my ass handed to me...
Okay. Okay. Maybe it wasn’t that bad really. I did quite well on my first attempt. But the fight was brutal and I carted twice before the monster retreated to it’s lair.
My mistake was forgetting the quest objective is not to “Hunt” but to “Slay” the monster.
I followed it into the lair with only one healing potion left - not knowing the finale triggers an event that cuts you off from any attempt at escaping. You can’t resupply. And to make it worse you can’t trap the monster either.
I struggled for a while and got in a few more hits but ultimately with such limited healing options I failed.
Today I went for round 2.
It took me a while to sever the tail. The thing about this monster is that it’s not only a walking explosion. It spreads an exploding slime all over the area that explodes for massive damage after just a few seconds.
AND it can fall off it’s body if you hit it - tail included. Removing the tail is one way to make the fight easier.
Plus. Asshole developers from Capcom made it actively react to your clutch claw. You basically NEED a temporal or rocksteady mantle to tenderize/flinch shot the monster. Something that was only true for Rajang before (and the monkey has a few moves where he’s too busy to react as well).
The idea was to save the mounting chances to the finale so I used traps and flinch shots for the initial fight.
The finale went surprisingly well:
I’d say the finale is actually easier than the rest of the fight. Given you have the healing potions.
Anyway. I don’t want to fight this guy ever agai...
Shit... I’ll need to fight him again...
So crunchyroll released a breakdown of all of megumin’s explosions and it’s frankly fantastic:
Like look at that chart for the movie, it's just an exponential graph! if the movie didn't end it would've just hit explosion singularity. it ends with a final tally of her destruction:
