Late Autumn in the Semirechie

The southeastern part of Kazakhstan - an extensive area known as the Semirechie (Zhetysu) - belongs to the few regions of Kazakhstan where rich bioresources are concentrated. In Lake Balkhash seven large rivers flow into the lake, which, in fact, gave the name to the edge. These are Ili, Karatal, Aksu, Lepsy, Baskan and Sarkand. The most full and long river is Ili. Its largest tributaries are Chilik, about 250 kilometers long and Charyn, which passes through the same canyon and originates in the mountains of the Central Tien Shan for 430 kilometers from the confluence of the Ili. Or brings to Lake Balkhash about 70% of all incoming water. The river is considered transboundary. It originates on the glaciers of the mountain system of Terskey-Alatoo, forming at the confluence of two small rivers - Tekes and Kunges. On the 150-kilometer stretch of the Tekes flow, it enters the territory of China, where it merges with Kunges. The total length of Ili is 1439 kilometers. In the Ili basin there are several national parks. This is the Charyn Park, Altyn-Emel, as well as the Ile-Alatau National Park and the Kolsai Lakes Park located in the Northern Tien Shan. Without any exaggeration, we can say that the subregion belongs to the most beautiful places of Asia with an absolutely fantastic variety of landscapes and climatic zones.
