I’ve been reading the predictable and often exasperating comparisons between the Mariinsky & Bolshoi’s versions of Don Q. Sometimes I get frustrated by the critiques, but also appreciate that there’s such a well-versed ballet-going audience to engage in these types of debates. However, it does make me wonder why there are such big differences between the Bolshoi & Mariinsky versions of quite a few classical ballets. Swan Lake comes to mind. (Not a fan of the Grigorivich version.)
